Review: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (Sony PSP)

Diehard GameFAN
19 April 2010
  • Summary: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron plays just like any of the other games in the series except that it improves on some areas of the gameplay and falters in others, namely the controls. The story to this game is very weak, and the majority of the value that comes from owning this title will be from playing multiplayer. If you don’t like Star Wars or don’t have access to a Wi-Fi connection, then I would pass on this game.

Review: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (Sony PSP)

Diehard GameFAN

  • Summary: I may be calling this game “poor”Â for its official score, but there are few games that pissed me off as much as this. To be a follow up to a game I got so much enjoyment out of and to fail miserably on so many levels is something I just can’t forgive. Congratulations Rebellion, you’ve just turned a solid fan away from the entire franchise. It is going to take a miracle for me to ever play another Battlefront game on any handheld console again.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Review

VideoGamer.com
4 January 2010
  • Excerpt: In principle, it's hard not to be impressed by the scale of the action in Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. At the start of a battle you might be fighting on the surface of a planet, but if you hop into an X-Wing, or another spacecraft of your choice, you can head into space for a spot of zero-gravity dogfighting. If you've managed to knock out the defenses on one of the massive Capital Ships, you can then dock with them and explore their insides on foot.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Review

GameSpot
16 November 2009
  • Excerpt: The Star Wars: Battlefront series has always been known for its large-scale multiplayer battles, which makes it a strange candidate for release on Nintendo's handheld. But the latest game in the series, Elite Squadron, has indeed been released on the DS. Unfortunately, the multiplayer aspects are so limited and disappointing that the focus goes to the single-player adventure.
  • Pros: Tells an interesting original story, Has a good sense of Star Wars atmosphere
  • Cons: Core action is repetitive and simple, Vehicle sequences are even simpler, Terrible multiplayer makes this a Battlefront game in name only

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

  • Conclusion: What Elite Squadron really gets right is the big picture--the feeling that you're fighting in an epic battle. It's not as successful with the details, and it mostly plays it safe, feeling very much like its predecessor. If you're a fan of previous games who is hungry for more, you'll probably enjoy this offering for the exciting way in which the ability to fly between the planet's surface and the capital ships in space makes the battles feel much larger.
  • Pros: Single-player campaign tells an interesting original story, The three linked battlefronts make conflicts feel epic, Wide variety of vehicles, weapons, and visual customization options.
  • Cons: Space combat has too little impact on the tide of battle, Infantry controls feel stiff and awkward.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

Game Revolution
12 November 2009
  • Excerpt: Stay on target. Welcome back, young padawan, to the world of Star Wars: Battlefront , a game of intergalactic combat that finally lets you play as the little guys in the trenches who fight over political ideals they can’t even fathom, on planets far from their homeworlds, and die in horrible and disfiguring ways. So much more fun than being a Jedi , right? Well, at least it used to be fun back when it was on the PS2 and Xbox.
  • Pros: Ground to space and back in one mission, Gotta love Star Wars marketing tie-ins, Poor controls, Glitches out the wazoo, Bad story mode, Needs some work
