Summary: Even if you completely ignore its storied history, The Red Star is still an incredible action game that is a perfect fit on the Sony PSP. Fans of both old school shooters and 2D beat-em-ups will fall in love with the merging of these two genre. It not only offers an exciting old school experience, but also offers a lengthy campaign that is worth playing through multiple times. And best of all, you can have all this for a mere $15!
Excerpt: I could start this review by telling you a bit about the comic book on which The Red Star is based. I could tell you all about Makita's rush to save her father, about Troikia and Kar Dartha and the Skyfurnace R.S.S. Or about Maya's guardsman, Kyuzo. I could tell you about all all of these things. I won't, though. This is a review of the video game. As far as the video game is concerned, none of that stuff matters.
Excerpt: Owning a PSP is a bit surreal these days. On one hand, we get to play portable versions of PS2 games, which we would have marveled at back when our PS2s were the hotness. On the other hand, the actual PS2 game we're talking about, The Red Star , is all of three or four years old, which is an eternity in the gaming world. The explanation for this tremendous lag doesn't fit in this review, but the upshot is that The Red Star actually looks decent in its PSP incarnation.
