Summary: Space Invaders Extreme combines the essence of the original game with an alliance of futuristic graphic design and audio. The gameplay experience has been developed to maximize the console's abilities, offering players a whole new range of features including a vast array of new power-ups.
Excerpt: Special weapons add a lot of strategy to the game and are perhaps the most exciting change. Any time you slaughter four aliens of the same hue in succession, you'll receive a corresponding special shot. This is attached to a meter that quickly drains, but while you are supercharged you can unleash a triple-wide shot (green), explosive shells (red) or a devastating laser beam (blue).
Conclusion: Not only has Taito gone the extra mile to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Space Invaders with style, but they’ve also managed to add yet another excellent budget title to both the PSP and DS’s libraries. If you’re looking for another fresh, quick-fix arcade-style game, at $20 this is pretty much a no-brainer.
Excerpt: It’s so great to see Taito release a game. In the UK they’ve been pretty much dead, and even in Asia you rarely see much from them unless you’re in an arcade. Or there’s their fantastic train driving simulator (now available on the Wii). But little else and it is sad because they pretty much changed arcades back in the day with the first release of this very series.
Conclusion: 30 Jahre und kein bisschen leise.
Pros: Retro Feeling, Superwaffen, forderndes Gameplay, Minigames, neue Gegnerarten
Cons: fehlender Online-Modus, kein Online-Highscore, Hintergrund manchmal irritierend
