Excerpt: As far as I am concerned Sonic Rivals is a failure on the Playstation Portable (PSP). The score received may be a passing grade, but only because only one major area was a dismal failure. The section of game play is one of the more important sections (not as important as Family Friendly Factor).
Excerpt: When I found out I'd be reviewing Sonic Rivals I immediately paid the nearest available gypsy to sharpen my favourite knives in readiness for a critical slashing not seen since Tom's review of the terrible Xbox 360 Sonic game.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Despite showing promise and being fun at times, Sonic Rivals is still a bit of a let down. Seeing as Sonic is now 15 years old this is an especially sad indictment. This is no rival to the original titles and so the wait for a great Sonic title begins yet again.
Excerpt: At first glance, Sonic Rivals looks like what long-time fans would expect from Sonic. It moves fast, there are loops all over the place, but there’s a twist. Rather than just running through the course yourself, you’re racing against a rival.
Conclusion: In the end, Sonic Rivals is a game that has a lot of potential but it unfortunately doesn’t manage to capitalize on this. Sonic Rivals is a game that you will find some enjoyment in playing, but it just doesn’t have that depth to make you want to continue playing it for long periods of time.
Excerpt: Ah Sonic, you really need to decide who’s your friend and who isn’t. From Heroes and Adventure 2, where you teamed up with characters, to Rivals where you’re fighting the very same characters. What’s your problem?
