SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike

Game Boyz
2 March 2008
  • Excerpt: With two previous SOCOM games already on the market since the launch of Sony’s Portable Playstation; SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike arrives on the PSP with little hoopla. When our Editor-in-Chief handed me the game last week I was stunned that there was another SOCOM game as I hadn’t heard much about its release. Unlike previous games in the series, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike was developed by Slant Six Games as opposed to Zipper Interactive.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike

The Gamers Temple
2 March 2008
  • Excerpt: I'm not sure why, but Sony's PSP mantra seems to be, “Portable versions of beloved franchises mustn't bear any resemblance to their console bigger brothers. Instead, we need tactical gameplay, dammit!” When the PSP first game out, Metal Gear Solid was the first to get this treatment, with the release of the two admittedly excellent Metal Gear Ac!d titles. Next came Final Fantasy, with the remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

Expert Review

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: A decent squad-based effort but one that needs its few creases ironed out. If you can bear its faults or are a SOCOM fan though, then you'll find plenty of enjoyment here.

  • Cons: Limited camera sometimes makes it hard to see what you need to see, Movement reticle can be a hassle, Laggy multiplayer, both online and off

SOCOM: U.S Navy SEALs Tactical Strike

Project COE
6 November 2007
  • Conclusion: If there’s one aspect to Tactical Strike that came together almost perfectly, it’s the game’s presentation. This game looks extremely nice, like Logan’s Shadow nice. The levels are huge and lushly detailed. Some of the animations are a bit over-the-top, but given how detailed everything is, we can be forgiving. The lighting is also very impressive for a PSP game.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike (PSP)

Gamecell
5 April 2012
  • Conclusion: So to sum up this latest SOCOM is a welcome diversion from the earlier incarnations but it hasn’t been a flawless exercise. As I mentioned the camera is awkward far too often and your squad - whilst being reasonably intelligent - do still make silly mistakes if you’re not there to hold their hands.
  • Pros: Genuine depth to the gameplay, Well presented, Varied settings and missions, Fun multiplayer, A different kind of SOCOM
  • Cons: It’s not the usual SOCOM, The camera doesn't always work as well as it should, Some testing checkpoint placement, Occasional frame rate drops
