Sid Meier’s Pirates! PSP Review

Console Obsession
30 May 2010
  • Excerpt: Sid Meier’s Pirates! was essentially just a collection of mini games, although it was still somehow one of the Xbox’s most absorbing games and Full Fat have done a wonderful job of porting the game to the significantly smaller PSP.

Sid Meiers' Pirates! (PSP) Review

411mania.com
22 May 2008
  • Summary: Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life is a really good port of an absolutely classic game. It's not perfect by any means, as sneaking into town and some of the presentation isn't quite as PSP-friendly as we'd hoped, but everything that makes Pirates! what it is is here and in fantastic form.

  • Excerpt: Yo-ho-ho and a Sony PSP! Sid Meier's Pirates! Is an open-ended game which means you can do pretty much what you want. If you want to be a peaceful trader and avoid conflict, you can do so. If you want to be a reckless pirate and take on everybody you encounter, you can do that too.

Sid Meier's Pirates! review

Gameplanet
5 January 2008
  • Excerpt: Shiver your timbers in your pocket with this great pirate adventure. Ideally suited to the PSP this game will have you setting sail on the ocean waves and coming back for more. Yaarrrr!
  • Pros: High seas, rollicking pirate fun. A very good port from the original PC version that loses little in the translation.
  • Cons: Some speed issues in the gameplay and the small playing area can be confusing at times.

Sid Meier's Pirates! (PSP)

22 December 2007
  • Conclusion: It’s hard to believe that after 20 years a game can still feel fresh and exciting, but Pirates manages both. Anyone seeking depth and longevity should certainly pick up a copy. It’s a great way to spend a short bus journey or a long afternoon.
  • Pros: Feels more at home on the PSP than it ever has, No two game are ever the same, Deep, simple yet FUN
  • Cons: Some may not “get” the simplicity

  • Excerpt: Raise the sails and ready the cannons because pirates are storming onto the PSP with a splash. Sid Meier’s Pirates has arrived on PSP and proves to be a solid sea faring adventure with enough “argh”s and “arrr”’s to keep even the most pirate-hating gamers busy for several hours.

Yet Another Review Site
11 May 2007
  • Excerpt: The original Pirate of the Caribbean is back, and his name’s not Jack! Back in 1987 Sid Meier created a little game called Pirates! At the time it was a revalation. Never before had this kind of open endedness been seen in a game.
  • Pros: Large Map. Open ended game play. Multiple ways to play.
  • Cons: Erm, the dancing bits?
