Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory Review - PSP

About.com
20 February 2007
  • Conclusion: Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory is an action RPG, but it barely fits the genre, as the game is far more about combat and weapon management than role playing or story. Rengoku has an amazing item management system, a very hip new control scheme, and some damn sexy android designs... and that's about it. As far as gameplay goes: kill, get items, climb tower, rinse repeat.
  • Pros: Amazing android designs by famed artist Jun Suemi, Unbelievable amount of weapons, armor and combinations, Unique head and right/left arm attacks assigned to each button, Amazing android designs by famed artist Jun Suemi, Unbelievable amount of weapons, armor and combinations, Unique head and right/left arm attacks assigned to each button
  • Cons: Dismal textures/level design, Very repetitive gameplay, Virtually no story, Dismal textures/level design, Very repetitive gameplay, Virtually no story

  • Excerpt: Note: I was not able to try out the multiplayer, an aspect of gameplay that looks to greatly add to the enjoyment of the title. While I cannot say directly how much it would affect the review, it is something to consider.

Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory

Portable Review
22 October 2005
  • Excerpt: Rengoku has got to be one of the ugliest games I've witnessed on the PSP. This game is riddled with flaws, yet I cannot put it down. Something is working behind the scenes here. Something Sinister. Something I have no control of. Whatever it is, I hope it keeps working its magic.
