Summary: If you are a fan of turn-based strategy and aren't locked into the notion that all R-Type games must be frantic shooters, you'll enjoy this game. Most maps are long and narrow and require wiping out all enemies as you move towards a goal. What makes the game interesting is the unit variety.
Pros: Nice map and enemy variety, deep strategy without being overly complicated, no memorization required (unit details available at a glance).
Cons: Poor ending, long load times for battle animations, clunky menu interface (in main menu, not during battle).
Summary: this game is great for new gamers all the way up to the experienced. great for kids because it is easy to understand and play and its great for others because its simple and time consuming so u can enjoy a game
Summary: The R-type series is fun as a side scrolling shooter, but for an RPG nut like me it's even better as this FF Tactics-esque game! The ships, the upgrades, the combos and unlockables -- all are amazing, and there's even a story that sorta-kinda ties it together!
Summary: R-Type Command is faithful to the series, even in it's big turn from shooter to command style genre. I counted about 77 ships playable throughout the whole game, and overall, you'll get lost in the depth of the story, which is rather intriguing. A must buy for anyone with a PSP and a love of R-Type.
Summary: This is a decent Strategy RPG, but be warned, there are scenarios where if you research and buy the wrong stuff, you can end up with winnable scenarios in the end game, just like any JSRPG. This is more of a spaceship command RPG, and is pretty straightforward in design. Buy and upgrade ships.
Summary: Fine, around three years ago I saw this and the Gradius Collection... I never really got into R-Type all too much. I've played through the SNES R-Type III: The Third Lightning which is the basis for my R-Type experience.
Summary: I read a number of reviews and hesitated at first. But when it hit discount I figured I had nothing to lose. As the other reviewers noted, this is not the classic R-Type game. It is a strategy game along the lines of the traditional hex-based wargames.
Summary: If you love a turn based strategy, than this is for you. This game if beyond fantastic. This was one of the first games i got when i got my PSP quite a while ago, and boy was it worth it. This game if a turned based strategy with RPG elements to it.
Summary: I am not much into RTS or TBS games, but this was something that I felt compelled to try. I tried this for two reasons, 1: the save anywhere function and 2: there was a demo. I ALSO understood that this was NOT a typical R-type shooter.
Summary: I bought this for my video game-addicted son who is in the Air-Force along with another much more expensive game that just came out. He liked this one better. Other than that I have no idea what the game does, it did come with a model of one of the spaceships in the game, he loved that because he...
