Test Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker
31 August 2010
Excerpt: No sooner than landing in the South Pole on our recent Pole to Pole excursion did we then need to dust down our snow laden flight jacket and take to the skies once again with Flight Simulator X: Discover Europe. As with the previous First Class Simulations add-ons Discover Europe is all about the experience.
Excerpt: Before fanboys bemoan the less than perfect rating given to the latest instalment of Metal Gear from Kojima Productions, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was judged for overall experience for gamers as a whole. Released June 18th, loyal fans will probably have already purchased and completed MGS: PW up to and including the Monster Hunter levels. This is for the rest of us; those who know of the series and are wary of the fanatic loyalty it inspires.
Excerpt: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker may be a portable game but at one point in time it was Metal Gear Solid 5, so obviously it’s always been intended to be an important addition to the franchise. It’s also the first smaller scale game in the series for Hideo Kojima to be involved in and, for this reason alone, it can sit quite confidently next to its big brothers with its head held high.
Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is Metal Gear Solid. The name that makes gamers go into a frenzy. So when it was announced that MGS: Peacewalker would be coming to the PSP, it generated mixed feelings among gamers on whether it would do justice to the series.
MGS Peace Walker Review: A Few Casualties Can't Stop Big Boss
25 June 2010
Conclusion: Concept: Learn more about Big Boss’ past and how he built his army of loyal followers
Graphics: Character models look great, animations are smooth, and the cutscenes are still impressive
Sound: Voice work and music are top-notch, and I have to give a special nod to the infectious tune emitted by your marauding robotic opponents
Playability: The three control schemes each make different sacrifices, so none of them feel perfect in all situations
Excerpt: Supposedly, Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to be Hideo Kojima’s swansong for his celebrated series, which launched in 1988. Upon MGS4 ’s release in 2008, Kojima announced his retirement from Metal Gear , imploring his younger staffers to pick up the torch. Then 2009 brought the announcement of Peace Walker , an MG prequel set in Central America during the Cuban Missile Crisis’ fallout, and taking ample advantage of Costa Rica’s status as a demilitarized nation.
Excerpt: If legendary game designer Will Wright sat down one day with the intention of figuring out which of his games he liked best, only to realize that he just couldn’t choose a single aspect of virtual existence he most enjoyed tinkering with, then Spore might very possibly have become the order of the day. Instead of choosing just one, Will Wright would simply sim everything .
Conclusion: It's not Snake's first visit on the PSP, but in many ways it feels like it is. Hideo Kojima's name might be seen as a stamp of quality, but it also puts a lot of pressure on the game itself. After many hours of infiltration, weapon handling and a ridiculous amount of cigars it must be said that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is one of the most content-filled PSP games in a long time.
Pros: Tons of content, fun agent puzzling, good story, great sound and music
