Metal Gear Acid

Game Boyz
29 August 2006
  • Excerpt: I went through a few phases when I caught wind of this game. The first phase came when I initially heard about it—1 went crazy over the idea of a Metal Gear game on the PSP. The second phase was when I found out it was card based. I admit, I was a bit skeptical at first and I was disappointed that Konami could possibly ruin such a great series. Fortunately, I was wrong. The final phase involved me renting the game and trying it out.

Metal Gear Ac!d

Into Liquid Sky
4 June 2006
  • Excerpt: Let me get this out of the way: Metal Gear Ac!d is NOT a stealth action game. It's not a Hideo Kojima game that fits into the Solid series timeline. It is, though, an interestingly deep turn-based strategy title that uses a card-based means to provide some excellent action. And before you get too upset, the card-based strategy manages to work well within the stealth action that Solid Snake has always been famous for.
  • Pros: Looks great, Card-based strategy is a nice change in genre, Lots of cards to collect, Challenging, yet fun
  • Cons: Story and presentation is a bit odd at times, Card-based theme sure to turn some off

Metal Gear Acid

Game Over Online
6 May 2005
  • Excerpt: Well, the PSP is here. With the release of the PSP, of course, comes a slew of new titles and sequels targeted at the portable market. There are a few titles out there that are brand new or differ from the norm, but one in particular takes the cake: Metal Gear Acid. Metal Gear isn't exactly an underground franchise so with the release of the PSP and the name Metal Gear appearing on one of the packages, I imagine it sold really well.

Expert Review

PSX Extreme
29 March 2005
  • Excerpt: Konami certainly disappointed "some people" when they decided to produce a turn-based, card-focused Metal Gear game for the PSP instead of something more in line with the action-oriented games already available for the PS2 and Xbox.

Metal Gear Acid review (PSP)

HonestGamers
31 December 2004
  • Excerpt: Initially though, who could blame players for thinking that Metal Gear Acid was doomed to failure. Stealth action and turn based strategy combined, fused together in an unholy coupling of high hopes and soon to be crushed dreams. How wrong we were. A combination such as this in lesser hands could have/would have/should have spelt disaster, with Konami at the helm however we're already moving in the right direction.
