Call of Juarez Review

AtomicGamer
18 June 2007
  • Excerpt: If you like Western-themed action games where the final goal is a city made of gold, well, you've now got some choices for which game you'd like to buy.  Of course, this is really more sarcasm pointed at the fact that we've now got two games released in the last few years with this exact theme.

The Laser

  • Summary: For a turn-based strategy game, Metal Gear Acid 2’s main gameplay is surprisingly exciting and offers players the chance to play an involving mission with a great storyline. The game’s presentation and visuals have been upgraded and changed. The levels have been designed with a new cel-shaded approach that gives the game a bright neon-yellow look.

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: Don't get me wrong, Metal Gear Acid 2 does a great job of expanding upon the design that made its predecessor such a compelling and intellectually stimulating strategy game. Once again, players have to manipulate Snake's movements and attacks within the three-dimensional environment by using cards that are randomly drawn from a custom deck. Different cards allow Snake to move, make attack, use items, set traps, and wear equipment.

Metal Gear Acid 2

GameTrailers
12 April 2006
  • Excerpt: Fans of the Solid Snake series never know exactly what to expect from the next release, and last year gamers willing to follow the franchise to the PSP were treated to a strategic and graphic experience unlike anything else in the Metal Gear universe. One year later, the sequel brings more cards, colors and customization to satisfy those begging for it, but anyone expecting another typical Kojima action adventure is in for a crazy and complicated surprise.

  • Conclusion: I applaud Konami for taking such a risky endeavor with the Acid series. Fortunately the gambit paid off and the first game sold well enough to keep their interest in producing more of them alive. The card based battle system is a welcome change of pace for the PSP and the sequel helps refine the gameplay even more. The cel-shaded presentation is a nice change for the series though to be fair it's a little over done these days.

Metal Gear Acid 2

Project COE
21 March 2006
  • Conclusion: With a slew of different gameplay modes like Arena, a two player mode that allows players to team up to take on boss characters from various Metal Gear games, Metal Gear Acid 2 is truly a complete package. Players can even use ad-hoc mode to battle not only one other, but can exchange cards and see who really has the better deck. The story mode can take anywhere from 15 to 20 hours depending on how much of a card collector you are.

Metal Gear Acid 2 Review

GameSpot
21 March 2006
  • Summary: Metal Gear Acid 2 adds plenty of new content while maintaining the great gameplay of the original.
  • Pros: More than 500 cards to collect, Great artwork and character design, Lots of exciting boss battles, Arena mode lets you fight against familiar bosses from other Metal Gear games, Great mission variety
  • Cons: Solid Eye is a cool gimmick, but it's not very practical for actually playing the game, Once you get past the somewhat steep learning curve, the battles become a bit too easy, Limited camera control can make it difficult to see your surroundings
