The Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original Mega Man X title that first appeared on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game builds upon the original, adding newly rendered 3D character models, totally new environments and game-play features that raise the bar for side-scrolling platformers. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X also includes an animated movie that provides real insight into the Mega Man X universe and even gives gamers a sneak peek at events that took place before the plot line of the first game. The comes with improved and updated level arrangement such as item locations, map layouts and the strategies needed for completing the levels.
The Mega Man Maverick Hunter X story-line is set in the year 21XX where a mysterious robot named X (Dr. Light's greatest creation) has become the model from which further robots, called Reploids, were created to aid mankind. Unfortunately, some of the Reploids turned against the humans and were given the name Mavericks. In response to this, the Maverick Hunters, an elite squad of Reploids, was formed to combat these renegade Reploids and calm was restored until one of the Maverick Hunters, a powerful Reploid named Sigma, turned against the peacekeepers. Now X and his fellow Maverick Hunter friend, Zero, must prevent Sigma from executing his evil plans to destroy humanity. Although the game still retains the 2D perspective but it is now set in a 3D world. The levels are more detailed and have a lot of things going on in them. The various special effects that the developers used really show off the power of the PlayStation Portable. The biggest addition to the sound department is that the developers added animated cut-scenes and voice acting to all of the characters. Players will find it interesting to hear the dialog spoken between X and the boss before each fight. The game is a side-scrolling action game where the player controls X as he hunts the maverick Reploids. Notable features include the ability to find enhancement to augment X's abilities, and the ability to absorb the powers of the maverick Reploids X defeated. The original moves, such as dashes, wall jumps and charge shorts are still present. The original flat backgrounds have been replaced by polygonal models, and the remake features enhanced explosions and generally more detail. All weapon and armour upgrades have been relocated to new hidden areas, and there is a new mode called Vile, in which you can play the entire game as maverick Vile, with abilities Mega Man does not have. As a bonus, there is a demo of Mega Man Powered Up on the UMD, a remake of the very first Mega Man game. It is rated as E10+ (Everyone in the age of 10 and above) by ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) with detail descriptions of violence. The rating by ESRB is designed to provide concise and impartial information about the content in computer and video games so that consumers, especially parents, can make an informed purchase decision.
