Madden NFL 06

Family Friendly Gaming
2 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I have enjoyed going back and playing sports games from a few years ago. It is neat to see how the franchise as progressed over the years. The Madden series is well known, and has way more good than bad years. I find the PSP (Playstation Portable) versions to be the best football on the hand held systems. How did Madden NFL 06 stack up? Come with me on this magical mystery tour of a football Goliath on the hand held David.

Madden NFL 06

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: It’s not surprising to see Madden show up on the PSP. After all, what current system hasn’t seen at least one version of the game? What is surprising is that it took so long for the game to finally make its way to Sony’s handheld system. So, was it worth the wait? Well, does John Madden like Turducken? Madden NFL 06 ’s visuals don’t pack quite the punch of the console versions, but it certainly gets close to it.

Football champ looks great on handheld.

Common Sense Media

  • Summary: Parents need to know that this is an incredibly realistic football simulation, even in its handheld incarnation. The game features the occasional hard hit (and some ads from game maker EA), but gameplay emphasizes the strategic and intellectual demands of football. The only thing parents need to worry about is how much time their kids will spend immersed in their virtual seasons.

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: The franchise mode has been trimmed down, but you can still go through multiple seasons with your team, sign players, do drills, play the preseason, put players on the practice squad, and trade players. There's no create-a-player, and the superstar mode is nowhere to be found, but it's more than adequate for general managers on the go.

  • Excerpt: Madden is everywhere. You can play EA Sports' workhorse series on almost any console dating back to the Super Nintendo. This year, there isn't a leading console, home or handheld, that hasn't gotten the Madden touch. Whether you think this is a good thing or not, it's completely possible for pigskin to be played anywhere and with anything, and EA Sports stretched out their console flexibility by bringing Madden NFL 2006 handheld to the PlayStation Portable.
