Excerpt: The PSP version of Gran Turismo is simply incredible, and yet disappointing at the same time. At first blush the game is awe-inspiring: 800 cars, 35 tracks. The visuals seem impossibly good and the controls work better than you’d expect. Ironically, the controls work best if you shun the analogue nub in favour of fully digital control. Which is to say, steering and gear-changes on the d-pad with accelerate and brake on cross and circle.
Crashes have no consequences in pricey racing sim.

Summary: Parents need to know that Gran Turismo is a racing simulation game, and that it encourages players to drive carefully and with precision. That said, high speed collisions do occur, and the game doesn’t accurately depict the dire consequences of forceful accidents, which could lead younger players, who have yet to learn how to drive, to believe that crashes aren’t all that serious.
Excerpt: Gran Turismo had been in development for the PSP since the console originally launched. Or, at least I think it was. It’s hard to remember since it’s been so long from when the game was announced to when it was finally released at the beginning of October. With a newfound interest in providing high quality titles for their portable platform, Sony and Polyphony Digital finally unveiled the Gran Turismo experience to the open arms of PSP owners worldwide.
Excerpt: Gran Turismo has turned into a bit of a strange series, hasn’t it? After the massive success of the first title, three others were spawned (as well as spin-offs to bridge the gap between releases) with each one being more hotly anticipated than the last. The same goes for Gran Turismo 5, which has players salivating.
Conclusion: Technically, GT PSP is remarkable – right up there as a stellar engineering feat as God of War on PSP is. However in practical gameplay terms, you'll want to examine what you hope to achieve with your PSP racing before taking the plunge. With no career mode, no bolt-on car upgrades, no online leaderboards – the question we fear players might be asking after an hour or so is “why bother?”.
