, but the original has seen enough re-releases over the years that it is impossible to not have played it. Then again, there are still weirdoes out there who have never played the original Read more

Anniversaries are a rough business to handle. You never know what to get someone when it comes time to celebrate an anniversary. Yeah, you can go by the suggested list of what to get, but where is the fun in that? More importantly, how do you celebrate the anniversary for a game series that is near and dear to the hearts of many RPG fans? Well, how about a remade release of the title that started it all? If this is the first chance you've had to play Final Fantasy , it's easily the best. Though the gameplay and story are incredibly basic, the audio/visual presentation is simply outstanding in almost every tangible way. . The game consists largely of roaming a large world encountering random groups of monsters and stopping in towns to meet people and get quests. The combat is turn-based and menu-driven and not violent in any direct way and there are no scary or sinister encounters. The game has a E-10+ rating, and I am giving it a 10+ GamerDad Age Seal not so much for the content as for the combined effect of the content and the amount of reading required to make progress in the game.... 5. Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition

For a game that punched industry staples into the RPG genre 20 years ago, it's still got some life in it. There's content for the hardcore fans, like a bestiary, and a history lesson to those who never got around to playing Final Fantasy. Still, for the bare bones white-and-black magic strategy that helped define Final Fantasy's turn-based battles and storyline two decades ago, this game's got some life in it. Of course, the game will be more appealing to those... Read more
