Summary: You know your game stinks when even the computer-generated characters’ faces are awash with shades of confusion and disinterest. Square’s attempt at servicing fans by pitting Final Fantasy’s greatest heroes and villains against one another only lasts as long as the action-packed introductory movie.
Excerpt: Let's say you're not a fan of Final Fantasy-I know, I know, seems crazy but roll with me here. This could be interesting. Let's say you're not a fan of Final Fantasy, have no idea what it has to offer and, oh my, it seems that you have a PSP and the newest release of Final Fantasy: Dissidia has been given to you. What do you write about? Well, it might go something like this: I hate Final Fantasy.
Square Enix Summons The Effort, Dissidia Falls Short
27 September 2009
Conclusion: Concept: A Final Fantasy battle royale with lots of familiar characters and not much else
Graphics: Great character models and flashy effects make Dissidia one of the most gorgeous games on the PSP
Sound: Key voice actors reprise their roles for the likes of Cloud, Tidus, and Sephiroth
Playability: While not exactly responsive, the controls are easy to understand
Entertainment: If you like fighting more than Final Fantasy, look elsewhere for fun
Excerpt: Whenever the Final Fantasy series is mentioned, the genres that immediately spring to mind are RPGs and tactics. After kart racers and pinball sims, quite possibly the last genre that the franchise evokes is 2-player fighting games. That didn’t stop Square Enix from releasing Dissidia Final Fantasy , a 3D head-to-head fighter in the vein of Power Stone . While it provides plenty of fan-service, the core fighting mechanics and game structure leave much to be desired.
Conclusion: A cynical exercise in fan service that leeches off its ancestors in the absence of any merits it can call its own. Still, fans do love fan service and many will no doubt thoroughly enjoy having their loyalty exploited so shamelessly.
Summary: Dissidia isn't a fighter, isn't an RPG, and unfortunately doesn't bring across any of the strong points from each. The nostalgia is great, but it's a shame that the storyline will most likely put most people off before they get a chance to fully appreciate it.
Excerpt: Fan service of any type is likely to be one of the best ways to sell a title. If you were to combine a popular franchise name with about a billion of the favourites from that franchise into one relatively big game, you’d certainly get quite a bit of attention, just look at Super Smash Bros.
Pros: Grafiken, Storslagen musik, Alla gamla karaktärer, Smidiga kontroller
Cons: Intetsägande berättelse, Lite brist på innehåll, Dåliga röster
