  • Excerpt: The Disgaea series of SRPGs is one that is well-known to those who have been following the genre over the past few years. The original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was released on the Playstation 2 in 2003 to general accolades, and made enough fans to warrant a second entry in 2006 and a third that will release on the Playstation 3 in 2008.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

Playstation Illustrated
5 January 2008
  • Excerpt: Disgaea: Hour of Darkness hit the PS2 a couple of years ago and helped to revitalize the then failing Strategy RPG genre. It began with a odd-package, which featured what could only be described as a heavy metal version of Precious Moments and continued with one of the deepest, and longest-lasting experiences offered on the system.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness Review

  • Excerpt: If you saw my Disgaea 2 review a year and a half ago, there'd be no doubt I am a major fan of the series. It is fast-paced, the story is pretty funny and the characters are really interesting. I loved Disgaea 2, and couldn't wait for a new game to hit the shelves. Well, I had my prayers answered...at least, sort of. Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness hit the PSP recently. AoD is a remake of the original PS2 game, with some added features, namely the new Etna mode.

  • Excerpt: You've probably never woken up to a day quite as bad as Laharl has. Not only does he catch his "loyal" vassal Etna using a variety of guns to try to wake him up, but he learns that he's been asleep for two years! If that's not bad enough, he also finds out that his father, the Overlord of the Netherworld, died shortly after Laharl went into his nap, and now legions of demons are trying to take the title that rightfully belongs to him. So, what's a demon prince to do?

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness review (PSP)

HonestGamers
4 November 2007
  • Excerpt: Accessed once you complete the original adventure (or with a code from the title screen), Etna Mode is a retelling of the classic story that begins with Etna trying to wake Laharl from his slumber... then accidentally shooting him in the head. As the late Overlord's son crumples into his casket, the red-headed heroine realizes she has a problem.

Endless Afternoon

TotalPlayStation.com
4 November 2007
  • Excerpt: a 10/10 score and claiming it to be the finest example of a strategy role-playing game on the market. Now, finally, the series has come to the PSP, and for the most part everything that made the series amazing on the PS2 makes it just as good in portable form. It's not quite a 10, but that's only because there were things added to to make it as easy as possible, however.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

Portable Review
31 October 2007
  • Excerpt: Okay! So I’m a little bit late jumping on this bandwagon, but damn it all, this series rocks! I also realize that N1 is bringing it to the market at an awful time considering that Final Fantasy Tactics has just been released for the same platform. Now, I’m all for some FFT, but where that game made this genre of strategic role-playing games popular, Disgaea makes it seem like a fine craft. MASSIVE Wait, what? As the story unfolds, you will see something sinister afoot.
