Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover

Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover is a fighting video game for the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP). It is a port of Def Jam: Fight for NY which was released for the Sony Playstation 2, the Nintendo GameCube, and the Microsoft Xbox. This game is considered as the official prequel to Def Jam Vendetta.

Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover was developed by AKI Corporation and EA Canada. It was published by EA Games and it was released in North America on August 29, 2006.

In the game, players take control of a nameless thug who finds himself within the world of street fighting after having saved a tattoo artist named Manny from police custody. Manny takes the player’s character to a man referred to as OG. OG becomes the main character’s mentor and teaches him how to fight in order to take over the Five Bouroughs of New York. OG is eventually murdered and a character referred to as D-Mob steps in and uses the player as his number one fighter. The player then faces a number of opponents until he learns of D-Mob’s mischievous plans and faces him in a one-on-one fight.

Like in the original Fight for NY game, players of Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover create their characters using a police sketch-artist system. Players can also choose a home town from among the Five Bouroughs of New York. Apart from this, players can choose their character’s fighting style from among Kickboxing, Street Fighting, Martial Arts, Wrestling, and Submission.
