Recently the discussion of innovation versus presentation has been popping up. Specifically, how should a critic view a game that makes no attempt at breaking new ground, but instead focuses on delivering a very polished and playable experience? Of course, the answer depends on the critic and what their personal philosophy is composed of. It really couldn't be any other way, could it? Read more
A solid RPG that doesn't quite stand out. A smart localization and by-the-book gameplay make it a worthy purchase. Read more
Crimson Gem Saga is not a game for everyone. It can best be described as a niche title, designed for those who appreciate a good old, classic-feeling RPG experience. If you like fast-paced, action-intensive RPGs, then you should steer clear of Crimson Gem Saga. If you do like the older format, however, this title really is a gem, and it shouldn’t be missed! Crimson Gem Saga is the second game in two weeks to show that there's still a lot of life left in 2D, sprite-based visuals. While it doesn't hit all of the same high points as Super Robot Taisen (also an Atlus release), Crimson Gem Saga looks great. There's nothing worse than a pretty RPG world where you spend just as much time fumbling around trying to find an exit as you do questing and fighting. Read more

Crimson Gem Saga is a reminder of the golden age of RPG’s. Throughout your play time you’ll recall classic games like Lunar , Shining Force , Knight and Baby , Vay , Phantasy Star and your SNES Final Fantasies . Although the game doesn’t reinvent the wheel and sticks to the tride and true trappings of Turn Based RPG’ing, it does give us one of the best stories and cast of characters this decade, and that alone is worth experiencing the game for. Is this the game of the year? I am not sure about that but I may have found my top game of 2009 on the PSP. Crimson Gem Saga is a role playing game fans dream. This is the kind of RPG we grew up with during the time when role playing games hit their peak. Instead of saying how good it is even more I am just going to leave my review with this. PSP owners need to buy Crimson Gem Saga immediately. Rating Breakdown Gameplay: 10 out of 10 + Classic RPG on Sony’s portable. Read more
The PSP has had it shares of ups and downs as one minute there are several quality titles, then all of a sudden there is a streak of lackluster titles being released. With 2009 looking to be a strong year for the mighty handheld, Crimson Gem Saga is another shining example that quality titles can be produced for the handheld without having to focus on visuals, leaving the remaining elements as an afterthought. Game came in perfect condition. A very sterotypical korean turn-based RPG with plenty of grinding to be had. Great graphics and fun combat that doesn't get to boring. Would loved to see more questing besides the lame few there are. Read more

It follows the adventures of Killian von Rohcoff, who has a penchant for being at the wrong end of fate. Killian is now caught up in the battle for an artifact known as the Crimson Gem. The gameplay in Crimson Gem Saga is similar to turn-based RPGs, with a few extra twist in the foray. This includes an ambush system where contact between the player’s icon and a generic monster icon on a field map will trigger a battle. If the player manages to sneak up on the monster (ie, the monster has its back towards player), the player will gain immediate preliminary attack with the combined force of all party members. If the monster is aware of the player’s presence (denoted with a "!" symbol above their head), the monster gains a preemptive attack on the player with the combined force of all the enemy party members. Players can also customize their weapons and skills, and combine attacks that include powers from up to 4 party member. The game has an ESRB: T (Teen) rating for Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco.
Crimson Gem Saga requires players to master the Critical Combo System to deliver multiple hits and damage to an enemy. Players can team up with Allies to unleash massive dual, triple or all-team attacks and the game also features detailed character and sprites. The game showcases hand-drawn visuals on 2-D artwork. The game features 8 main characters where the player (as Killian) can interact with. They include Acelora (a Radiant Crusader that serve the Order of Light), Spinel (an elf, and a self-described "treasure hunter extraordinaire". This character interacts with Killian at the beginning of the game), Herbert con Guterrian (Killian’s rival from the days of Green Hill Academy. Is an arrogant character with a unique laugh and is always up to beating Killian at everything), Henson (mysterious, wise-cracking mage who is quick with an insult and a burning fireball), Jeffrey (the only character who has even worse luck than Killian. He first runs into Killian while in the middle of a dispute with Spinel), Lahduk and Gelts (is a former priest who has renounced his old ways).
