Cladun: This is an RPG (PSP) - Review

VGChartz
28 October 2010
  • Excerpt: Once upon a time, video games were dominated by 8-bit graphics. You would be remiss if you think that time is now. A renaissance of the 8-bit way of life has been occurring over the past year, however, with 8-bit graphics and a return to old-school gameplay showing us that retro is in fashion again. The classic dungeon crawler has now received this treatment from NIS in Cladun: This is an RPG for the PlayStation Portable.

Come Along For The Grind

TotalPlayStation.com
26 October 2010
  • Conclusion: Cladun really helps to broaden the appeal of the PSP by giving players a 40 hour game with small levels to help solidify the portable experience. Multiplayer isn't really a huge selling point, but the game will have your attention for hours on end.

What did I do to deserve this RPG, my lords?

Game Revolution
5 October 2010
  • Conclusion: In the style of Disgaea meets Neutopia (or The Legend of Zelda , if you know that one better) with a visual style copied borrowed from Half-Minute Hero and What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord!? , ClaDun is a very customizable RPG (the name is truth in advertising!) where all you have to start is a stick and the clothes on your back, left to defend yourself... and your bossy best friend, Pudding . She's the reason you're in this predicament as it is.
  • Pros: Deep RPG at $20!, Little barrier to entry, Deep hero customization, Create your own characters, Cool pixel-art style, Dungeons are usually short, straightforward
  • Cons: Endings are okay, credits are long, Multi-player is there, but broken

Cladun: This is an RPG Review (PSP)

Gamers Daily News
30 September 2010
  • Summary: This is not for those that want a quick hack and slash or run and gun experience. There is depth here and to fully appreciate the game you will need to dig into it and find what makes it special. If you want storyline, control over character progression, and other more standard RPG elements you need to look elsewhere.

  • Conclusion: ClaDun - This is an RPG! is an unapologetic tribute to the great games of the 8-bit era. Some of the charm may be lost on today's new-school gamer, but to those who know their gaming history ClaDun will bring back some fond memories. Don't let this PSN exclusive title pass you by.

  • Excerpt: Are you down with the neo-retro movement? You know: games like 3D Dot Game Heroes, Etrian Odyssey, The Dark Spire, or NISA's latest handheld title: "Cladun." Short for "Classic Dungeon," this PSP dungeon crawler showcases intentionally pixel-heavy, 8-bit style graphics. But nostalgic charm can only carry a game so far, and if you work too hard to imitate the games of old, you'll also pick up their flaws. While Cladun has plenty to love, it also has plenty to hate.

CLADUN: This is an RPG

Gaming Evolution
13 September 2010
  • Conclusion: Cladun offers 15-999 hours of playtime, adorable 8-bit blocky fellows, midi music to melt your heart, trap-laden dungeons, and the grind of your life. If this sounds appealing to you, then the price should be even more so! At twenty bucks a download I suggest you slap on your dungeon-crawling pants and get to work!
