Pros & Cons

  • new audio, between the three games, and other enhancements, faithful old school patforming, two games in one
  • far too short, difficult controls, incredibly hard levels, very challenging game, too basic and shallow

When people speak of The Dracula X: Chronicles in the years to come, they will remember it for value. For four Hamiltons, you are getting the most Castlevania ever released in one package. And the saga is finally presented in complete form. The sheer amount of work that went into making this stateside dream of Rondo a reality, and the natural enhancements that mostly make it better, all go to prove the wait for it was valid all along. It also goes to show that maybe... Read more

This is a great collection for the PSP. As of late the PSP has really been releasing some great games and on top of that list are all the remakes. Yes I think remakes are stupid, but any more I think I’d rather buy the same game again than buy a few original games that get old after a few days. Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles has a lot to offer for its small price tag though wanting to buy this for a portable version of Symphony of the Night would be a mistake.... Read more

Because of the difficulty in obtaining the games and the fact that Rondo of blood is not quite great, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles loses a point or two. A lot of people will not see, perhaps the best that the UMD has to offer, and that’s sad. Read more

I’m sure you’ve all heard about that famous game - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night . It was first in the series to really make a dent in the market. It borrowed the concepts of exploration and self-discovery from Nintendo’s Super Metroid and fused them together with good ol’ vampire whipping. Needless to say, it was an unprecedented success and it is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made. Read more

A fine remake of a fine game packaged with both its fine precursor and its precursor's fine sequel. And that's just fine! Read more

Fun: This is a pretty neat remake of the original game. The 3D game fits nicely, and you even have the option of playing the original game for the Turbo Grafix 16 along with some bonus stages and hidden "minibosses" in the remake addition. You also get to play SOTN with this game, once unlocked, music, and boss-fighting options. As for the complaints: This game is based on the remake of an older game, and like so, will play as the older game. Be prepared to be killed... Read more

Fans of recent Castlevania's should be wary - as Rondo of Blood follows the traditional Castlevania style. This means a balls to the wall arcade/action platformer; filled with sometimes impossible seeming challenges and the rather awful jump control earlier Castlevania's were known for. Past all this however, is a 2D haven for purists of the genre - a "they don't make em like this anymore" type of experience. For those players more interested in the Metroidvania stylings...
