Brooktown High

Digital Chumps
18 March 2008
  • Conclusion: In a painfully unrealized dose of irony, the lack of ambition or clear goal in Brooktown is not unlike the mindset of a typical uninspired and bored teenager. The gameplay literally runs in circles and has gone nowhere when it's finished. After an hour or so of playing you will more than likely unceremoniously discover the same thing I did; you haven't actually done too much, and what you've already done will be no different than what you will soon do.

WorthPlaying
22 July 2007

The Laser

  • Summary: As you might expect, the gameplay is fairly predictable and unfolds in the same pattern each week, which becomes tedious after awhile. This makes things repetitive quickly, but the additional items you can purchase and extra mini-games helps to reduce this to a degree. This isn't going to challenge experienced players, but it's a fun title that casual gamers will probably enjoy.

Brooktown High: Senior Year

The Gamers Temple
9 July 2007
  • Excerpt: Brooktown High is a simulation of high school dating … well, a simulation of high school clichés at least. You play the new kid at school and need to work your way up from an unknown nobody to one of the popular kids in the in crowd.  You begin the game by answering a set of questions that are used to determine your personality scores.

  • Excerpt: For some, High School was an awesome four year experience that people fondly look back upon. For others, those memories aren't exactly the most pleasant. No matter what your experience was during these four years, Konami has unleashed a way for you to go back and relive High School or turn it into an enjoyable experience. Brooktown High: Senior Year is a mix of The Sims with elements of a dating simulation.

Brooktown High: Senior Year Review

GameSpot
24 May 2007
  • Excerpt: While a multitude of dating simulations have allowed the socially awkward to live out their romantic fantasies in Japan, the genre never really caught on here in the US, which is a big part of what gives Konami's Brooktown High for the PlayStation Portable any of its appeal. Similar to the voyeuristic thrill of watching little suburbanites toil away in The Sims, the idea of playing the part of a high school senior juggling his or her social and scholastic obligations is...
  • Pros: Indie-rock-laden soundtrack is surprisingly good
  • Cons: Every character conforms to horrible high school stereotypes, Conversations repeat early and often, Too many passive activities, Wicked-bad load times

Smells like teen spirit

Pocket Gamer

  • Conclusion: Less an adolescent social simulation and more a lesson in pandering, Brooktown High fails to make the grade
