Fun but sometimes difficult

Game Seek
8 December 2013
  • Conclusion: The game is fun, but is really for kids. The mini-games are only earned after you scored some levels. This means that you first have to catch all the apes before you get the mini-games as a bonus. But for kids it’s a really fun.

  • Excerpt: Catching monkeys... More entertaining than it might seem. Storyline An evil monkey named Specter gains hold of a helmet designed by 'The Professor' to boost the intelligence of monkeys. He aids other monkeys with helmets in return for their help to assist Specter in world domination, by travelling through time. It is up to you, Spike, to stop Specter's evil intentions, save Buzz who has been brainwashed into being Specter's slave, and save the planet.
  • Pros: Brilliant fun - filled gameplay
  • Cons: Extremely similar to the original

Limited Shelf Life......

T. Prescott, amazon.co.uk
9 July 2006
  • Summary: I bought this game ages ago as the first game on my psp, the game itself is quite fun and can be entertaining for short periods but too repetitive to play it for more than half an hour at a time. The graphics are good and are very similar to cell-shading but not quite as refined. The basic premise is to catch monkeys over a load of levels using new gadgets. The multiplayer mini-games are quite good first time but again suffer a very low replay value.

Go Ape on your Handheld

  • Excerpt: When I had my PSP I knew I had to get this game when I saw it, the only thing is I am not even sure that it is out in Europe! I got this game imported and I was pleasantly shocked and also a little dissapointed at this playstation 1 remake. Ape Escape originally came out many years ago back on the PS1 as a game to show off their "Dual Shock" technology pads, you know, the Playstation pads with 2 Analogue joysticks.
  • Pros: Graphics, Voice Acting, Its Fun
  • Cons: Load Times, Poor Camera

monkey business

2 October 2005
  • Excerpt: Pretty much a port from the PS2 version with a few simple updates and twists. In Ape Escape you play the hero Spike a manga type hero who utilises a net to catch the pesky monkeys running loose in history. The bad guy in the game is Specter an evolved monkey who's intelligence has been enhanced thanks to a special helmet he wears, he sends his drone monkeys across history and into the future to cause mayhem and take over the world (queue planet of the apes) Spikes job is...
  • Pros: Fun, cartoony action game with lots of mini games .
  • Cons: slow, frustrating loading times .

  • Pros: glasklare Grafik, kunterbunte Levels, Minigames
  • Cons: manchmal leichte Slowdowns, mangelhafte Kamera, ein bischen kurz
