Summary: Personal Experience I have had this projector now for 1 week and was very happy with it untill the bulb blew on me. I still have a week to return it to the store, or I could use the 1 year bulb warranty. Still undecided about this. The product comes with a 3 year parts/labour warranty as well. I think for the price it's great. Maybe I just bought a lemmon. Problems Bulb blew after 1 week. Contrast ratio too low. Very noticeable with dark images. Can vissibly see pixles.
Summary: Personal Experience I just bought this after delaying to long to jump on the BIG SCREEN train. Very pleased. It was on sale for 600 Euro (after tax). I alomst payed at least 3 times as much for the just released Panasonic PTA-E700, but decided on the Viewsonic. Read all information on this model I could find on the net, and bought it. My room is totally dark, and this unit gives me everything I need at the moment.
Summary: Personal Experience This projector is a great value for the $$$. It is bright enough to view with a lamp on in the room, and the contrast is just fine. I am projecting onto an 8 foot wide 16:9 resolution screen. The black bars at the top & bottom don't bother me at all. I did notice some "screen door" effect, but slight de-focusing made it nearly unnoticable. The de-interlacer isn't awesome for a 480i TV signal, but it is tolerable.
Summary: Personal Experience Just got this projector last week so any long term problems that could be encountered havent yet. The picture quality is real sharp, the only problem being the deepness of blacks. This should be expected when getting a projector with a 300:1 contrast ratio. I have my projector in a small room so the ability of the picture to project larger with a smaller distance worked out good for me.
Summary: Personal Experience I bought the viewsonic pj510 a week ago. This is my second projector, my first was a telex p400 low lumens and low contrast. the viewsonic 1200 lumens makes a big difference I don't have to cover up all the windows in the house anymore, works well with dim light environment. I view dvd movies at 150 inches full frame. I used a flat latex interior silver paint on my wall and painted 160 inch screen on it.
Summary: Personal Experience Bought this projector primarily for viewing DVD in my home theater and play games on my XBox, and I must say it excells in all departments. VERY sharp and detailer image with very little noise in whisper mode. The projectors internal de-interlacer isn't the best around (but what do you expect at this low price?) but it works fine for watching a ball-game and such.
Summary: Personal Experience I've used projectors for a long time as part of my job, and carried out quite a bit of research when looking for a projector for myself. The ViewSonic is actually manufactured by Hitachi, and Hitatchi generally under-rate their projectors, so a 1200 lumens projector is equivalent to a 1400 or 1500 lumens projector from other companies. I was very impressed with the spec for the price, and paid just £680.
Summary: Personal Experience I just picked up a Viewsonic PJ510 and I could not be happier! Granted, I am a first time projector buyer/user, but I am a LONG time big screen tv owner & user. Keep in mind that I only use my Viewsonic for satellite television & DVD's, but I really can't imagine having a better picture!
