Summary: Personal Experience I have had the projector 2 years, with no trouble until 2 weeks ago. At that time, it started to show daigonal yellow lines in some parts of the image. I sent the projector to Sony for service. They indicate that 'authorized' repair stations are not suggested for this unit. Very quickly they came back with an estimate for repairs. The estimate was $2,400, which was more than I paid for it. Basically, the projector is a throw away.
Summary: Personal Experience I've had the HS10 now for 22 months. An amazing product bought at US$2750. Like high-end HIFI audio system to get the best out of the projector good associated gears and environment are important. Associated gears used are Pioneer DVD player 737 with progressive scan, Draper 84" matt white pull-down screen and a darken room of 18' by 22'.
Summary: Personal Experience I bought this projector ages ago for £2000 (that's $3765). I have to say it's the best thing I have EVER bought. I did buy an electric 95" screen for £500 ($942) as well. I have it set up in quite a small room and the projector is only 5 or so metres away from the screen using the sideshot function. It looks amazing, for those wining about bulbs going after 300 hours, get over it, a bulb is a bulb, some last 50 hours, some last 10,000. Deal with it.
Summary: Personal Experience Hi, I've had the projector for a year and a half now and have something like 800 hours on it. I have never experienced trouble with it yet except a fan not starting a few months ago (but turning off and on again did the trick). I am quite happy with the projector, given the price I had to pay, I believe it is an excellent deal. There are two things that have disturbed me with this projector from the start though: noise and the PC resolution.
Summary: Personal Experience I have used this pj for 10 moths now (550 hrs). I live in the Netherlands and paid EUR 4000,- for it. Picture is very good, blacks good be better. BUT: I have also experienced the lamp problem (in fact it is in repair right now!) First problems after aprox. 75 hrs. Then progressively worse.
Summary: Personal Experience Image quality very good, very nice projector but @ this time I must take a stand and say it is not reliable. Problems Lamp want come on after 800hrs,having to send back to Sony for repair,I'm hoping to get back from Sony ASAP.
Summary: Personal Experience I've got to give Sony's service a kudos. After over 1 year of use and over 1500 hrs on the lamp, one of the fans suddenly died making the projector unusable. I put in a request for service at Sony's online site and sent the projector down to Texas to be serviced. After reading a lot of the reviews about Sony's service I wasn't expecting to see it again for around a month and was skeptical that they'd actually fix it.
Summary: Personal Experience I purchased this projector in Sept '03 based on its awesome picture and value pricing. To me, it looked as good as or better than LCD/DLP projectors twice (or more) its price. I'm projecting it on a Draper 119" M2500 fixed screen with acceptable viewing in daytime, spectacular in the evening. I found this site while searching for the cost of a bulb. Yeah, after about two months and at about 170 hours the bulb would no longer fire.
Summary: Personal Experience i love watching dvd with this maschine. the wxga resolution gives the image the extra sharpness you need in my home cynema system. visitors prefer my image over a 8500$ plasma screen Problems sometmes 1 ventilator wont start but when you touch it it starts.
Summary: Personal Experience Hard to beat for the price but with 60-some hours on the lamp, I've had it stumble a few times on power up. The video quality is hard to beat for $2300 (the street price I paid). There's some screen door if you're really close to the screen and there's some video noise, but overall, it looks considerably better than anything else I've seen at this price on both DVDs and HD material.
