Summary: Personal Experience Oct. 2009 This is a terrific projector. I bought mine in 2004, and it has been flawless. I've only changed the bulb once, though I do keep the unit in a well ventilated area and dust it out with canned air. It's a native 1080i compatible projector, and does not have HDMI although you can get a cable to go from DVI to HDMI or vice versa. I've seen the new projectors on the market and unless you spend 2000-3000 you're not gonna beat the quality.
Summary: Personal Experience I have had the projector 2 years, with no trouble until 2 weeks ago. At that time, it started to show daigonal yellow lines in some parts of the image. I sent the projector to Sony for service. They indicate that 'authorized' repair stations are not suggested for this unit. Very quickly they came back with an estimate for repairs. The estimate was $2,400, which was more than I paid for it. Basically, the projector is a throw away.
Summary: Personal Experience I just wanted to follow up on an old review I did of this projector. I still feel the same way about the projector, but my opinion has changed about Sony's service. I think they have done a complete 180, and offer far better service than they used to. When I had a malfunction with the prism block, I sent it in and they replaced the entire block, power supply, filter and even put in a new lamp for free...and it was a week past warranty!
Summary: Personal Experience I've had the HS10 now for 22 months. An amazing product bought at US$2750. Like high-end HIFI audio system to get the best out of the projector good associated gears and environment are important. Associated gears used are Pioneer DVD player 737 with progressive scan, Draper 84" matt white pull-down screen and a darken room of 18' by 22'.
Summary: Personal Experience I bought this projector ages ago for £2000 (that's $3765). I have to say it's the best thing I have EVER bought. I did buy an electric 95" screen for £500 ($942) as well. I have it set up in quite a small room and the projector is only 5 or so metres away from the screen using the sideshot function. It looks amazing, for those wining about bulbs going after 300 hours, get over it, a bulb is a bulb, some last 50 hours, some last 10,000. Deal with it.
Summary: Personal Experience I've had the HS10 now for 12 months and I have had nothing but trouble. The lamp does'nt start intermitently. The unit has been repaired three times now. Obviously everyone else has had this problem. Are all projectors crap?
Summary: Personal Experience I've had this projector for a little over a year now, and am just now starting to run into the problems many, many others have had. Problems My bulb is only about 1/2 as bright as when it was new, with only 250 hours on it. It's so dim I have to replace it already. I've had the lamp cover/start-up issue happen only once, but it happened several times during that day.
Summary: Personal Experience Hi, I've had the projector for a year and a half now and have something like 800 hours on it. I have never experienced trouble with it yet except a fan not starting a few months ago (but turning off and on again did the trick). I am quite happy with the projector, given the price I had to pay, I believe it is an excellent deal. There are two things that have disturbed me with this projector from the start though: noise and the PC resolution.
Summary: Personal Experience I have used this pj for 10 moths now (550 hrs). I live in the Netherlands and paid EUR 4000,- for it. Picture is very good, blacks good be better. BUT: I have also experienced the lamp problem (in fact it is in repair right now!) First problems after aprox. 75 hrs. Then progressively worse.
Summary: Personal Experience Image quality very good, very nice projector but @ this time I must take a stand and say it is not reliable. Problems Lamp want come on after 800hrs,having to send back to Sony for repair,I'm hoping to get back from Sony ASAP.
