Sharp XV-Z17000 3D DLP Projector

Sound & Vision Magazine
21 September 2011
  • Excerpt: Many of us here at Home Theater are big on 3D, but a lot of front-projection fans have been holding off. Until recently, their only options in the $5,000 3D projector market were two identical JVC models (sold either through that company’s pro or consumer distribution channels).

  • Summary: Don’t be fooled by its dour looks and uninspiring spec - inside the Sharp XV-Z17000 beats a heart of pure 3D gold.
  • Pros: 3D images suffer no crosstalk or flicker, Extremely detailed 2D and 3D, Glasses are comfortable and effective
  • Cons: 2D contrast could be better, Some judder with 3D, It runs a little noisily in 3D-friendly lamp modes

Sharp XV-Z17000 review

Home Cinema Choice
13 June 2011
  • Excerpt: When asked by Sharp if we wanted to audition its 3D projector, we weren’t about to say no, even though the machine hasn’t yet been confirmed for a UK release. Oddly, Sharp is prevaricating about whether there’s a market for a 3D PJ with a retail price of around £4,000. But AV retailers’ shelves aren’t exactly heaving with such items. There’s only Sony’s VPL-VW90ES (£5,400) and a trio of JVC models, ranging in price from £3,500 to £9,500. And that’s currently it.

XV-Z 17000
