  • Summary: Personal Experience I have owned this one for several years, purchased new. Nothing really remarkable to report except that it is the subject of a class action suit regarding lamp life. No wonder... Even though I operate it on "eco-mode", where the advertised lamp life is advertised to be a spectacular 3000 hours, I am only being blessed with 500 hours per lamp. I'm buying a new projector next time it fails.

Cheap in the beginning, but costly in the end.

  • Summary: I bought my Sharp projector around 5 years ago, for around $1250. In the beginning it was absolutely great. I had it at 80" on my wall with Surround Sound. But over the past few years I have gone threw 5 bulbs, and 2 projectors. I have never gotten over the 1,000 hour mark on a bulb. The most recent bulb I bought(January 13, 2010, from Amazon) only lasted about 30 hours.

  • Summary: Rash of bad power supplies with only 6 months left on 3-year warranty.
  • Pros: Easy to mount, warranty repair was fairly quick (see below).
  • Cons: Of the 150 mix of this model and XR-11X in our 15-school district 15-percent of these have failed due to bad power supply.

  • Summary: Comments about Sharp Sharp XR-10XL: I am a teacher so I use this when I am conducting lectures. It works very well and I was quite surprised that it had so many different features. It has a 4 segment color wheel, and that is really what sold me! I like my presentations to be very rich and vibrant in color and that is what I have experienced using this!
  • Pros: Easy To Setup, Easy to use, Great picture quality, Reliable Performance

  • Summary: Personal Experience This is a nice projector and puts up a nice picture with any of the inputs (RGB, S-Video). It works great for TV, Movies, and Video Games. However, don't expect the bulb to last very long. Problems My projector bulb burned out in about 8 months of casual use, and it costs $250 to replace. 2 months after replacing the bulb the lens light flashes green and wont turn on (meaning the projector itself is not working).

  • Summary: Personal Experience I am looking into this projector and found the new model, 10XL has a new bulb and firmware because of the bulb failures. Sharp knows the 10X was bad and caused the problems but I had to call 2 times and ask the right questions to get them to tell me the changes in the 10XL. Just a warning. I will be getting the 10XL.

  • Summary: Personal Experience Very happy with projector great dual capable office home machine until bulb blew at 105hours! Just out of warranty! Problems Great difficulty sourcing bulb, Sharp New Zealand totaly unhelpful, finally managed to source one from US, most suppliers wouldn't send one here due to Sharps global marketing arrangments! Old bulb did have dust build up around air vents will remove and clean new bulb every 50hrs and see if that helps!

  • Summary: Personal Experience Like most owners of this ($800 street price) projector I loved it and bragged about it to everyone until the $350 lamp blew after just 9 months (~700hrs) of light to medium DVD and HDTV use. Called Sharp and the 2000-3000 hr life expectancy of the lamp gets no consideration from them; just the 90 day warranty.

  • Summary: Personal Experience In April I purchased an xr-10s projector for use in my classroom. Because I liked the product, I purchased another in October for my home theater. Problems One week after that purchase, the bulb in the school projector blew. Two and a half months later the one at home blew. Both lasted far below the advertised life expectancy of 2000 hours. In addition, they were both set to the lower bulb brightness to conserve the life of the bulbs.
