Summary: Where has this projector been all my life! I cannot say enough about the quality of this projector. Originally I had the PT-AE200U. But when the bulb burned out three years later I thought $350 was too much on an expense so I sold my original PT-AE200U projector. I then tried out a variety of projectors from different companies that would provide the same quality. No way! I was now regretting I ever sold my original projector.
Summary: Great picture and functionality is great. I've had two prior Panasonic projectors, including the 300U and 700U and this is definitely bigger than those. But love the vertical and horizontal shift.
Summary: Personal Experience I bought this projector after seeing my friends PT-AE1000 and I love it! I did a ton of research and this is by far the best projector for the money. Much more expensive projectors do have a little better contrast and image detail in darker scenes but that is the only noticeable side-by-side advantage. My goal was to duplicate the cinema experience as closely as possible.
Summary: I bought the PT-AE2000U one month ago, July 2008. It has surpassed by expectations. For the price I doubt you can find better. The start up time is under 1 min. The picture resolution is very good with Time Warner DVR box using HDMI and fantastic with Blu-Ray. The box is quiet and not hot during operation. The set up is a breeze. Autofocus works well. I have used it during the day many times when the ambient light is not well controlled and the picture remains good.
Summary: Personal Experience I had the opportunity to actually purchase this projector and the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 at the same time in order to decide which one best suited my needs. After about 3 hours, I decided on the AE2000. I found it was much brighter in its best picture modes and with the bulb in eco-mode mode (whereas the Sanyo is comparable in brilliant cinema only and with bulb set to normal - but the projector ran a bit louder and much hotter), had slightly better blacks...
Summary: Excellent price performance. You can find a better projector but it costs more than 2X before you can see some different. For most consumers, this is an excellent projector, great colors out of the box, reasonable sharp, lot of settings can be tweaked, very quiet fan. The black is not as good as JVC RS2 (one of the best projectors) but it is good enough for most people. The project must be watched in the light controlled room or the colors will be wash-out.
