Summary: Personal Experience Purchased as a replacement for a 3 yr old Panasonic PT-AE4000U, as my new living room has floor to ceiling windows down one side. The PT-AR100U is a fantastic trade up, opting for much more brightness over the 4000U's frame interpolation system. Image is not perfect for fast paced sports, but improved brightness is a worthy trade off. I am very pleased with this projector.
Summary: I want to wait on 3D so this purchase was a stop gap... I was concerned that a budget LCD projector would not project as sharp an image as my previous DLP and tube based projectors but the Panasonic AR100-U is terrific. My screen is 150" diagonal and the 1080p image is vivid, bright, and very focussed edge to edge. Very happy with the performance/price!
Summary: Replaced a 5 year old Epson - This is 3 times the machine for 1/2 the price. Brightness on Eco setting is fantastic in my space which has fairly bright ambient light and when the room is dark it's fine. It does not have great blacks, but otherwise it looks great. For my set up (96" grey screen and 15' foot throw) I needed to choose a preset that shrunk the visible size down to a size the zoom could fit one the screen. It works great for us.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good Remote, Interfaces Well With TV, Intuitive Controls
Summary: If you are looking for a projector that looks good in a bright room, this is it. I've owned many projectors over the years and wanted one that worked well outside the home theater. This is my first Panasonic projector and I could not be happier. Pros: Very bright without looking washed out Easy setup Optical lens shift really makes a difference in mounting options LARGE focus ring allows for very precise focus Did I mention it's bright?
Summary: I have been looking at home theater projectors for over ten years. In that time I have looked at everything from Sharpvision to Barco to Epson and Sony. Each time I would visit a home theater showroom and view a projector's image in a controlled light environment, I would decide that the image quality and brightness were not quite impressive enough. I was just could not bring myself to spend thousands for something that was a bit dissapointing.
