Summary: Its amazing how bright 20 lumens is in a dark room on a brown paint. Its to bad that there are a dozen dead pixels with only 30 hours on the unit. I'm not sure if the fault it optoma or Texas instruments. But if this were a car it would be recalled. So when I bought a bigger projector for my 5th wheel I bought a qumi 5 instead of another optoma.
Summary: This projector is okay, while it works. I wasn't expecting much in terms of brightness and such. Being fairly technical, I knew what to expect. However, after a little under two years of normal use and care, it started to show signs of a white "video rash" for lack of a better term. Recently, I have seen this on many DLP products after about the same amount of time or less.
Summary: I purchased a manufacturer refurb of this product. It arrived in excellent condition and looked like new...new box, new cables and wrapped in a sealed bag. It worked for about 2 days of very light use (30 mins total) and stopped working. The screen had artifacts covering the picture. I tested it for another 30 mins and it kept getting worse! This would have been a good device if it had lasted longer. When it worked it looked fantastic!
Summary: I use a larger Optoma projector to give workshops. I thought this one might be fine to avoid having to lug the bigger one, particularly when I have to appear in court and have evidence to present--more professional than a chart pack, compact, light, easy to set up. This projector has a very large 'cool' factor--quite a neat little package. However, as one other reviewer has said, it can only be used in a really really dark room.
Summary: Let's start with good stuff....Um...It is small. Done. Now let's go into the negatives. One, it is way too dim. You can't use this projector unless your room is really small and pitch dark. Two, you can't possibly get the whole screen focused. If you need to use this projector for text, forget it. Three, software is horrible. I couldn't successfully get it to read any movie I saved into the external micro SD. Maybe, projector never meant to be portable.
Awesome products.... if it worked! Never focused...

Summary: Loved the Optoma's size and functionality. I was so excited! The only problem? The only way to focus was to have it about 1 meter from the wall, projecting an image that was about the size of my Macbook 13" laptop. Not good! I suspect the lens was smacked out of place, because the focusing wheel would just make things worse, and the specs for this baby say it can project large images. Oh well!
Summary: 1. VGA output from connection to portable laptop: Adequate due to focusing problems, i.e. unfocused image across the breadth of the projection which comes from a distance of approximately 12' in this case. Furthermore, focusing the image adequately with the focusing wheel is somewhat difficult.
