Summary: I think this projector is great. it is my second projector and is used down stairs in our theater room. you can see the immage with the lights on but of coarse are awesome with the lights off. on regular tv is is good a tiny bit grainy if you wanna nit pick but when on HD tv is very clear, nothing to complain about. i did read and study about this projector before buying it. i found a review on it with suggested settings.
Summary: I have owned the HD72 for over 2 years now. It gets used on a weekly basis and it's still going strong. As many other reviews point out, the lumen output on this one is not as great as some other projectors. However, the blacks look great and colors are vivid, so I have no complaints. It sits in my basement with a very, very small window, so I have no issues with the light output. It's also a LOT quieter than many, many other projectors.
Summary: I've had the Optoma HD72 for about 4 years now. The picture is beautiful and amazing. I have it set to 100 inches. Watching sports and playing video games is truly amazing. I have it connected to cable and a PS3. Only problem I've had was that dust tends to get inside, as there is no filter, and it causes the projector to overheat. I disassembled the unit, and blew the dust out and it is working great again.
Summary: I have had this projector for 4 years since 2007 and used about 1000 hours (300-400 movie titles). I spent 1000 US dollars on this HD 72 and a high-gain screen . I could not be happier with the Optoma which is a key component of my first home theater and as a matter of fact this is so far one of my best investments. My wife was skeptical about the purchase at first look but has been enjoying watching movies with me ever since the first HD movie.
Summary: I bought my HD72 (actually the 6800 at Costco) back in December, 2006, and put around 750 hours of bulb use onto it. It was fabulous while it lasted. Then suddenly it developed this problem where the lamp turned itself off after a minute or two. I did some net research and found out this was a huge problem with this model. A few emails to customer service and I gave up on the machine.
Summary: This is my second Optoma HD 72 projector, the first one is still in use and working well. Only thing I can complain about is having to use the high altitude fan setting at 3500ft. Didn't turn it on when I got my first projector brand new and the bulb burned out after 400 hours. Unfortunately the fan is much noisier on the high altitude setting. Other than that the projector is great.
