Summary: This projector is a replacement for a large Sanyo PLX30. The light output is not as bright but the color is great. The unit takes about 30 seconds to come up to full brightness but this leaves time for my audio system to startup and lights to dim. I have set the color temp down from the default to get truer color and this make the movies pop. This projector can compete with the Epson 1945w. The epson is a 3 chip LCD but the pictures are very close.
Summary: Done a lot of research and found almost all 5 stars on this product. No owners manual came with it. Very simple to Google and find a free one. Did not have a screen. Tacked a white sheet up on the wall. It is unbelievable the color, contrast, and black levels that we seen. The brightness was on economy and with the sheet, picture was very bright, again can't wait to see the picture on a 1.4 gain screen.
Summary: We have had model HD7100 for about 3 years. We really enjoy the picture in our custom built in home theater. However, we are on the second unit, after the first had a mother board failure. Now, the second unit is turning off the bulb with no warning. The bulb is a bit old, near the end of its life. However, according to the manual and tech support, it should have given warning indicators and/or shown significant dimming prior to failure.
Pros: Excellent picture, rich color, good contrast
Cons: Mother board went out after three months. Now on second unit and bulb goes out without warning. Reliability is not good. Loud. Puts out lots of heat.
Summary: Beautiful appearance so it disappears into the ceiling, quiet enough to not be disturbing, absolutely amazing picture! I am viewing on a 120" screen and really brings out the meaning of "Home Theater". Great Projector for the money, so you have plenty left for your speakers, screen, Blu Ray and of course lots of DVD's. We also play Wii games on this set up and every one laughs and loves it, most common comment is simply WOW!!
Summary: Personal Experience At first, the projector was great. The picture was pretty sharp and decent colour. After a while the problems started. I would select the bright mode On for when I was watching movies, and select it off when just watching tv. That bright mode would select its self off and on as it pleased? Then the fan was rubbing or ticking on its surroundings or something because after 20 minutes, all you would hear is this fan at 10000rpm flicking something...
Summary: We love our new Optoma projector! After purchasing a Playstation 3 we were looking to move up from a 720i to a 1080i projector. This projector has the following upgrades from our previous projector - 1080i, quieter fan, no pushing the auto image button when moving from regular to high definition channels, and room darkening not necessary to have a great picture.
Summary: Personal Experience Just bought the Optoma hd7100 and so far so good. excellent picture in a dark room on a 92" screen through component video using an older pioneer dvd player. Can't wait to see what it does in HD. Blacks and white are very good, I believe it to be better than 3lcd technology. On bright mode it gets a little noisy, but so far the picture is perfect on eco setting and is quite quiet. It seems like for the price it's the best value and a good buy.
Summary: Personal Experience The projector gives a good picture and delivers on what it was designed. However, it appears that Optoma may not be providing the service necessary to maintain this projector on the long run. My lamp burned out after 460 hours and I have not been able to find a supplier that can provide a lamp.
Summary: Personal Experience I have had this projector for a week and the image is incredible. I got it for $1249 with a $200 dollar rebate, final price $1049 for 720P Darkchip3. Great projector if you can't jump up to 1080P. I only wish it could accept 1080P signals but for the price and features on it can't complain. Problems None so far.
Summary: Personal Experience The HD7100 throws a very sharp picture on my Carada 134" 1.4 gain screen. It even looked good on the wall before I got the screen! I bought the HD7100 because it has a very short throw lens that allows me to get a 134" screen with the projector only 15 feet away. Problems I have about 100 hours on the bulb and have had a few times where it failed to strike initially but worked ok the second time. Many others are similar issues.
