Every year, projectors get less expensive. And every year, there is a projector that pushes the price/performance envelope, trying to give the consumer more for less. The HD65 is such a projector. This sub-$1000 powerhouse cranks out nearly 1200 ANSI lumens while maintaining good ANSI contrast and color balance. It is a perfect choice for watching HDTV programming, using video game consoles, or simply watching a movie with a few lights on. Placement flexibility is sub... Read more

You’ve got to hand it to Optoma: This compact DLP projector so severely undercuts the competition, it alters the category’s price-performance curve. The HD70 fires an impressively sharp, high-contrast, hi-def image onto your flat surface of choice, and it does so for under a grand. The unit skimps a bit on video inputs, but all in all, this is a superb projector that may make you wish you hadn’t spent twice as much on that 50-inch LCD. Read more

Sure, 1080p is getting all the buzz, but even the cheapest 1080p displays are still really pricey. For example, the lowest-priced 1080p projector is 4.5 times the price of this little Optoma. The HD70, while "only" 720p, has a distinction all its own that makes it one of the coolest products to come out in months: It's the lowest-priced HD projector ever. Read more

Optoma HD70 Home Theater Projector Review - Overview
Reviewer: Projector reviews14 November 2006I can easily argue that other projectors can match the HD70's price/performance. The thing is, there is always a projector or two offering great price performance in any given price range. Paid 799 on sale for this unit. I love it. I play xbox 360 90% of time, and kicks some serious ass. This is my first projector, and I realized there are some benefits to having a TV. But after you get used to the longer installation process, and having to control light in your room (i.e. buy curtains), there is no going back to TV. I bought a relatively cheap pull down screen, and the image quality is amazing. The only HD source I have is an Xbox 360, and the HD70 tru... Read more

For the faint at heart...I know that there are a lot o 1080p projectors out there, but you do not have to pay that kind of price for a good projector. Here we go....I have a toshiba hd-a20 (1080p) with the optoma hd70. I downscaled the hd-dvd to 1080i (you can also choose 720p , but I prefer 1080i). Results: King Kong is just as sharp as was on my samsung 56' 1080p dlp that I'm now trying to sell. Harry Potter ( the last one on dvd) during the fight seen between the t... Read more

Great Buy for a Movie Projector
Reviewer: Daniel R. Krattli, Amazon09 September 2007- Overall 10

I am very pleased with this projector. I've been waiting for quite a while to purchase a projector for the quality level to reach the right price point. It's pretty bright, works well with my laptop (powerbook g4), and displays beautifully. My needs are pretty simple, I want to watch DVDs in large widescreen, and this projector met those needs with 5 stars! Additionally cool are the adjustable pegs on the bottom of the projector to adjust tilt. This makes it really ea... Read more

Can't figure out how many hours on projector
Some newer projectors have a countdown of hours used. I just purchased an Optoma HD70 that has a bar graph showing the approximate life of the current bulb. Check through the advanced setup menu for yours and see if there is a bulb life meter or something similar.

Ready to create my home theater -- HELP!!
I looked at the Optoma HD70 and decided to buy that one with a 100" widescreen projection screen. There is a sale going on right now (rebate on both) so that will cost about $1000, leaving about $800-$1000. Can you recommend some speakers?
