Mitsubishi HC5000

12 September 2014
  • Summary: Although stylish and affordable for a 1080p projector, the Mitsubishi HC5000's black level failings prevent it from earning our recommendation.
  • Pros: Relatively inexpensive for a 1080p projector; accurate color decoding; solid video processing; well-rounded feature package.
  • Cons: Iris settings are not good enough for dedicated darkened theater setups, and consequently blacks are not as deep as the best 1080p projectors.

Mitsubishi HC5000 1080p Front Projector

28 August 2008
  • Excerpt: Normally, a new performance plateau is defined by products at the highest possible prices, followed by less expensive models as more consumers fund larger manufacturing volumes. For some reason, however, this is not the case with 1080p front projectors. Sure, there are some very expensive models out there, but there are also some amazingly inexpensive ones in the first wave of such products, including Sony’s $5000 VPL-VW50 (reviewed in Issue 74).

Mitsubishi HC5000 Three-chip LCD projector

Sound & Vision Magazine
28 January 2007
  • Excerpt: No, the compelling story of CEDIA 2006 in front projection was the growing number of three-chip LCD and LCoS 1080p projectors that were well south of $10K. Standing out tall among these was Mitsubishi's HC5000, not only because it was one of the least expensive 1080p projectors at $4,500, but also because I'd reviewed and been so enamored of Mitsubishi's HC3000. That projector is still one of the best deals going, and the HC5000 is certainly no less impressive on paper.

Projector reviews
25 October 2006
  • Excerpt: Of the half dozen newly announced “affordable” 1080p projectors (under $10,000 list price), this is the least expensive, and the first one in to us for review. As a result, we can’t reasonably compare the HC5000BL (link to specs) against our experiences with other competing 1080p projectors. Still, the performance for overall image quality, out of the box color accuracy, black levels, shadow detail, features, etc., are well known from lower resolution 720p projectors.
