Conclusion: DLP fans will love the easy-to-use InFocus IN81, which combines bright pictures and excellent picture quality with an attractive price. One important point: This projector doesn’t offer much flexibility, so you need to be able to put it in an ideal position.
Pros: Bright images., High resolution., Excellent video-signal processing., Compatible with Scart-RGB.
Cons: Colors lack neutrality in the factory setup., BrilliantColor has some side effects., Loud fan-noise.
Conclusion: If you’ve got the money and time to set up the IN81 right, your movies will look bigger and better than anything but a professional screening room.
Pros: You know how LCD and plasma fans measure their screen sizes in inches? The IN81 measures its in feet. If you’ve got a big enough room, this 1080p projector can throw a pixel-perfect image up to 17ft across. Hook it up to a Blu-ray player via its HDMI 1.3 socket for blacks that are as deep as the ocean itself and colours as natural as visiting a West End cinema. In fact, add an optional anamorphic lens and you can enjoy full Cinerama widescreen in your living room.
Cons: Even at West End prices, you’ll have to watch a lot of films for the IN81 to be cheaper than simply visiting your local fleapit. And don’t forget that that the IN81’s lamp (£300) has a lifetime of only around 2000 hours use. Pah!
