Summary: Personal Experience Great Unit...I had a Sanyoo and NEC before..the Sanyo was bulky and ran hot.. This unit is amazing for its light weight and portability....I watch movies on it in HD all the time and it beats a TV. I have a LUMENS meter and With a Phillips bulb I measured the ANSI at 2,370 LEMENS..much brighter than advertised...
Summary: Personal Experience The projector can fail to start and the power and temp lights will blink orange. This is a known problem with the Dell 1800MP projectors caused by a failed capacitor in the power supply. You can fix it yourself if you know how to use a soldering iron and have some experience with electronics. There are other posts on the Internet that show or point you to the repair. Search on Dell 1800MP power supply failure.
Summary: This product has been plagued with a bad power supply since its initial release. Those lucky enough to find one can easily repair the broken part if they know how to solder. Excellect product when it is operational also.
Summary: Personal Experience Broken projector can be repaired. Problems Thank you to srogers573 on a dell forum we have learned that this unit has a faulty capacitor on the power supply board. The symptom of the dead cap is the projector will not power up with quickly blinking power and lamp lights. The lamp is still usually good in the projector but you will receive no help from Dell on an out-of-warranty product.
Summary: Personal Experience This is a tiny light projector from dell. (those are it's only two good qualities) Problems I work in a district with over 100 projectors and 5 have been this model. Every single one (without fail) has caused me major problems in less than 1000 bulb hrs. Usually the bulb goes out at 500ish hrs, and sometimes the whole projector dies. It is not worth replacing the bulbs with such unreliable performance.
Summary: Personal Experience Purchased for 399 dollars (USD) for a budget home-theater installation. Biggest limitation is the fairly low resolution (1024x768). Projects a nice bright image in medium-low light situations, little washed out in 'Bright' lighting. Using the available configuration from the menus, the color and contrast can be adjusted fairly easily, and will drastically improved the produced image depending on your installation configuration.
Summary: Personal Experience Bought at about USD680 equivalent from Dell Malaysia which is great value for a new XGA projector. It is quiet, colours are clear and picture pixels appear very sharp evenly edge-to-edge. Problems Picture size zooming only very limited range. Picture also has very slight colour banding and not true 32-bit full colours range.
Summary: Personal Experience I'm using for movies and it's dificult believe that is possible to find better image ins this category. And the price is very fine. Problems The only problem is that it's impossible to conect HDMI.
