Summary: The BenQ W5000 home theater projector has 1080p resolution, single-chip DLP projector, delivers an extremely sharp, high contrast image. it comes through with a dazzling picture that justifies the price. Key Advantages Excellent contrast and black level. Don't let the 10,000:1 contrast rating fool you. That is a relatively low number in today's competitive market where contrast specifications range from 15,000:1 up to 50,000:1.
Summary: I've lived with this projector now for about a month... it is a remarkable projector. Images are crisp, detailed, sharp, and brilliant. There is a lot of setup and calibration flexibility. I use the projector in Whisper mode and it's very quiet, sounds like a small fan slowly running in the background... not real noticeable once you start a movie. The only negatives I've found: - 12v trigger cable - it's not a standard miniplug.
Summary: I also own the Sanyo PLV-Z5, (which was my first projector) with a 12,000-1-contrast ratio. The specs say that the BenQ projector has a contrast ratio of 10,000-1 but when watching between the two, BenQ blows the Sanyo out of the ballpark with not only contrast ratio but colors, image quality, brightness...everything. I'm totally impressed with this projector. I wouldn't have been disappointed if I paid $5,000 for it.
Pros: Amazing! Colors and contrast are better than I could ever imagine. Projector is huge, which allows very good airflow and keeps projector cooler than expected.
Cons: One dead pixel which is only noticeable when booting up without video source active.
Summary: Personal Experience Fantastic, turn of brilliant color for normal use, set sharpness & overscan to zero for the sharpest picture. I use mine for 90% HDTV (Australia) and use user mode 1 I load settings from Standard with normal color temperature, very happy!
Summary: Personal Experience I replaced my beloved Infocus 4805 with the W5000 and I'm most impressed with the sharp, clear picture. It's bright enough for my family room, but exceptional when the lights are out. I am currently using a homemade Baers Silverscreen painted screen. I would appreciate any advice on a commerical screen..eg Elite, etc. I have an entry on the Forum. Problems The projector is slow when moving from different resolutions ie 480/720/1080i.
Summary: Personal Experience This projector has an awesome image after it is calibrated. My 6th digital projector and far and away the best to date. Ultra sharp crisp picture, great colors, great depth. Blacks could be a tad better, but very nice shadow detail. I'm projecting onto a 92" Da-Lite high contrast screen from about 14' away and the projector does very well!! I watched "Tears of the Sun" the night I calibrated it and it was great.
Summary: Amazing product, crisp picture, bright and vibrant colours. To anyone who does have one of these if you want to have the picture perfect press the menu button, press the arrow right till it goes to the information menu, and then press up, down, up, down on the remote it will take you to a hidden menu, then select test patterns and then select dlp regular patterns then select checkerboard, adjust the focus ring on the projector until ALL squares appear sharp at the edges,...
Summary: Personal Experience The Benq W5000 is a projector that should be on many peoples short list. Very sharp image detail that really shines with great source material. The 1080/24-60 switching issue has been corrected with the latest firmware 1.21 which is now available in the U.S. Throw range could be better, and a motorized zoom and focus would also be nice, yet when the lights go off, all that really matters is the splendid image this heavyweight lays down.
Summary: Personal Experience I replaced my year old Mits HC3000U 720P DLP three weeks ago with the W5000. I am using it with a Panamorph UH380 anamorphic lens on a 108x45.5 2.37:1 screen. The image quality is simply stunning. Extremely sharp and detailed. While watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I was struck by just how 3-D the image was, like I was looking through the screen rather than at it.
Summary: Personal Experience my scores are based on the price level of this machine if your striving for the best PQ for the buck on a limited budget, this is the onlly machine to consider this PJ also has the best bang for the buck in features, giving you just the important ones and skipping most the overhyped crap, saving you dollars in the process the only serious drawback for SOME people is the lack of zoom range; your going to need to have a ceiling mount or rear shelf that...
