Color and mono per page cost is the same - a little-known and costly surprise.

Summary: I bought a 6180 several years ago and then started wondering why I was going through colored toner cartridges so fast, since most of my output is mostly or all black. In a call to Xerox tech support I learned that if the printer properties are set to color, the printer uses all 4 toners to create color, or at least that is what they said. In order to get the lower black cost per page, I had to set the printer property to black only.
Summary: We've had this printer in our small office for about seven years. It has been a solid performer over thousands of pages during that time. No downtime and no service required. My only complaints: 1) toner is expensive 2) image quality is a little dark.
Summary: First, the toner is $250+ per cartridge. You can find better prices at Costco then other places. The toner fragments are round, I am told, rather than square. This increases the image quality and price of the toner. It's cut, not shredded and therein lies the rub. The worst problem is the printer driver for this printer. If you want 40 copies of the same page, the printer driver will image the page 40 times and then send 40 images to the printer. This can take awhile.
Pros: Prints exceptionally good quality images and text. , You never misprint for lack of toner.
Cons: Very slow to start printing., Toner is expensive., Requires support contract for serious use., Requires toner replacement before toner is out.
Summary: I've owned this printer for nearly 3 years. I served as my home office printer for graphic design and photo editing. The output is marginal and if I print something even mildly toner-intensive (i.e., the block letter title of my son's science fair project) the paper jams at the fuser output. This happens nearly every time I print medium to high toner use pages. 18 months ago I moved into an office proper and bought an Oki C610.
Excellent printer--A few cons, but definitely worth it!

Summary: The Xerox Phaser 6180 printer is a great printer for a modest price. I bouught it because of the price, and how well my last Phaser worked. This one works very well, and I've used one for home and office with very few issues for over a year now. It was very easy to network at work and at home on my wireless home network.
Summary: Heavy, delivered on a skid, then didn't work. Got a persistent error about a toner cartridge that was impossible to eliminate. Documentation was superficial, not helpful at all, no telephone number to call therefore no alternative but to pack the thing up and return it. Too bad for Amazon and a lot of effort on our part.
Summary: This printer was exactly what I was looking for in a SOHO printer. Fast, beautiful prints. The toner is pricey, but I do see that there is some compatible toner out now that is less expensive. I did what some suggest and put in a 1 GB stick of memory from another source and it works great. If you do not need a duplexing printer, this is a great choice.
Summary: It is difficult to adjust the color, I have to do it mostly in the printing program and then if I print the same page 6 times I will get different color intensities for each print. I had a Techtronic phaser before and it was very easy to use. I had to replace it when they stopped making parts for it. Now I have this printer and I have been unsatisfied with it from the beginning, phone calls for support have not helped. I would never buy another Xerox printer.
