Summary: This is the third Xerox solid ink printer we have owned. I have loved these machines. They never required a service all. The copies are amazing copies. Unfortunately, the 8870 is a dud. Let me give an upside first: 1. The ink use is much lower than the other Xerox printers we've owned. We paid more up front, but the ink savings is huge! Downside: 1. I've had more jams with this machine in the few months we've owned it than I have in over a decade with the other machines.
Excerpt: As the title states, this printer is extremely loud. I have the unfortunate privillage of sitting next to this noise beast. With about 20 people in my group using this printer, it becomes extremely distruptive.
Excerpt: The vivid, crisp text is wonderful, and the noise and quirks are something you can live with. It is only after time that you notice the (many) faults of this truly trashy product. The printer has to be left on always. The printer melts a portion of the solid ink and holds it internally for use. If you turn off the printer, the molten ink is dumped as waste. Likewise, if you do not use the printer for a period, it dumps your ink to waste.
Excerpt: I was so disappointed I do not even know where to start. It uses wax as toner or something. The wax literally falls off the paper. Quality and service were also just dreadful. Get a trial period or get some other quotes.
Excerpt: I purchased a ColorQube 8870 4 months ago. We print about 7,000 copies per month. It ran fine for the first few months and now overheats whenever you run more than a few pages at a time. We've spent over $900 on repairs with no luck. I'm throwing it out and buying another printer. BTY - the 1 year parts and labor warranty doesn't apply because we purchased it through ComDoc - a company owned by Xerox. Total customer satisfaction - not so much.
Excerpt: After reading a few reviews I thought this unit would work for me. Duty cycle of 120,000 per month sounded good 40 PPM. sounded reasonable. Well it prints one page every 10 seconds = 6 PPM. My first run was 700 pages I was thinking it should take ABOUT 20 min. It took two days. This unit is very noisy.
Summary: My university replaced two of their printers with this Xerox 8870 printer. I preferred the previous Dell laser printers which were faster and quieter. Pros: Color printer Duplex Network Printer Cons: Slow - too slow to manage many students printing at the same time. You have to wait a long time for each page. Loud - the printer is located in our study lounge. The printer noise is disturbing when studying. Can't write on solid ink. I do not recommend this printer.
Summary: I'm a long-time owner of Xerox Phaser solid ink printers, but the 8870DN we just purchased has some major problems. We upgraded from the Xerox Phaser 8860 which, other than a bad print head, ran trouble-free for 4+ years. The new 8870, however, has had problems from the minute we took it out of the box: 1) Overheating and slowing to a crawl after just a few hundred pages.
