Summary: The story: It's been 3 years since I first purchased this printer. I got this printer from another source without any documentation or drivers. Thus my weaker rating of the ease of setup. That said I've had this baby running as my network printer for quite some time and have had many network setups and computers hooked up to it. The Review: So, to make this short and sweet here are the good, the bad and my suggestions: *The good* -Cheap to operate.
"Great Printer, but front loading no longer works."
22 November 2009
Pros: Cost effective, Quick for small volumes, Quick start up time, Amazing toner efficiency (I can't believe that someone would dare to use an inkjet instead of one of these for b/w), Reliable software.
Cons: Front loader broke shortly after purchase, Does not hold an entire ream of paper (500 shts) holds 1/2-2/3, Only 8.5 x 11 paper, Too much plastic in construction makes it unsturdy, Duplex costs extra.
Summary: We ordered a printer on Amazon.com..Not the printer which we are reviewing..The vendor sent the WRONG printer..We called the vendor and they sent us a return mailing label..which we returned immediately..BUT the printer CHARGE is still on my credit card...They have not done a charge-back with Amazon...The point of this review is donot buy printers from Amazon....
Summary: Been using mine for over a year every day print lots of checks and letterhead documents for several companies and the only time I had a problem with paper was when our A/C was out and it was really humid. Other than that this is an awesome printer for a small office. I use it all of the time for really large reports (200-250 pages) and it works like a champ on those as well. I would highly recommend this printer over a Brother any day!
"A SPARTAN! - Surprisingly good B&W LAN laser printer."
1 August 2009
Pros: - bottomless ink cartridge. - Cheapest cost per page printer I have ever owned (heavy duty ones are cheaper by a small margin!) - Easy install & compatibility (XP,Vista,7,Ubuntu) - reliable, generates little heat/smell & made solid.
Cons: - So-so appearance (no beauty queen here) - The network access menu is very complete but very confusing for someone who's not familiar with printers (lots of side-functions) -Not the fastest start-up time I've seen.
Summary: Received printer, set it up. Would not work. Never even pulled one piece of paper thru. Said "Paper Jam 2, Check Inside" on the display screen. Called Samsung. They said to send it to them and they would repair it. Forget that, send back a new product for repair? Contacted Amazon Customer Service. They mailed a replacement overnight and provided free return shipping. Will get the new one today. Hope it works.
Summary: This is my first Samsung printer and I've used it for about a month. I am very happy with it so far. Set up was easy and both Mac and WIN computers recognized it right away. Had some trouble setting it up as a network printer but managed to resolve it myself. I did send an e-mail to tech support and got no response back. It is very quiet in sleep mode but is somewhat noisy when printing. It is fast whether you are printing straight text or a page with graphics.
Summary: If you need duplexing, then order the ML-3051ND which is identical except it includes duplexing [printing of both sides of a sheet] and may cost $20 more. It does a fine job with duplex print. I use the manual input [multipurpose tray] a lot, with envelopes and half-letter [30lb. & 20lb 5.5" x 8.5"], and never have had a jamb.
