Summary: It has been working fine for one year with around 1000 sheets printed (duplex, toner saver mode). Recently it displays the low heat error, mostly caused by a broken fuser. The warranty is one year... so I have to find a new printer. I think Samsung produces high-quality LCD monitors, but this does not extend to their printers.
Summary: Short and sweet: Purchased in January of 2010 and worked great for awhile. Now, 16 months later, it's dead and no longer under the 1-year warranty. Samsung support was great and responsive, which is what prevents this review from being 1 star, but I bought a laser printer because they're supposed to be more reliable than inkjet. I was a little nervous buying something that's not a HP, but good reviews had me thinking this would be a good printer for a good price.
Summary: We bought this printer to replace our aging toner-hungry jam-prone HP. Like many other users here on Amazon and on the Samsung support pages, we had a great experience at first. Easy setup, good quality, and fast printing. As expected, after about a month the starter cartridge ran out of toner. After replacing it with the proper Samsung-branded cartridge, we've had similar problems to other users.
Summary: Comments about Samsung ML-2851ND Laser Printer: Print quality on this ML-2851ND is deficient & inappropriate for home office use. My old HP LaserJet printer from 1994 and the Samsung ML-2250 laser printer both provide better print quality. Returned for refund.
Summary: The ML2851ND is capable of some nice clean copies, good grayscale and quiet, fast operation. It is easy to set up, especially with Macintosh. It's footprint is fairly small for use in tight spaces. The only problem is that right out of the box about 95% of my copies printed with a smeary toner streak about a half an inch wide all the way down the left margin. This prints with varying densities most of the time but seems the darkest when the printer is first used.
Summary: This is a fast little printer. Unfortunately, it has the deplorable tendency to produce paper jams - which wouldn't be so bad if it were easier to get to the jammed paper. So far, I've always had to remove the toner cartridge, and even then it was difficult. The slit of the manual paper feed is barely wide enough for a letter-sized piece of paper, and if you need to print labels, you have to wiggle the page in just right (it prints them fine from the paper tray, though).
Summary: The printer is disappointing. The printer jams on the first page where the paper starts coming out of the paper tray at least once a day. It uses too much toner and the toner cartridges cost too much. Part of the problem is that we had a Samsung ML-1710 for around 5 years and it worked great the cartrides lasted a long time and were not too expensive. We rarely had a problem with it. In comparison the ML-2851ND is always having a problem.
Summary: The printer is good quality, speedy and inexpensive. It has a duplexer, and an ethernet port. So why only two stars? The software sucks. I'm using it with multiple networked Windows XP machines. I have serious problems controlling it. With my old HP, I could have different defaults set for different applications. This doesn't seem to work with this machine.
