Excerpt: My mother sent the HP Photosmart D7160 photoprinter to me for Christmas. I have to say, I love it! I was a little concerned at first about the cost of ink for this printer since it has six different ink cartridges. Five color and one large black. I soon found that …
Summary: Like many, I only have room for one printer on my desk, but still have a need for excellent photo quality in my documents. I've spent many happy hours with HP and Microsoft technicians trying to resolve the problem.
Pros: Produces excellent photographic prints. Cartridge replacement hardly interrupts a job. Handles large complex documents running in XP environment.
Cons: Print spooling is wretched in Vista environment, so large documents not practical. Single photos and small documents still print very well. Company apparently either cannot or will not support this line as standalone printers in Vista, though they were very good under XP. Print duplexer is no lon...
Summary: Newegg is the place to get your gear. Not only great prices but also really fast delivery and great customer service when you need it. Mike B.
Pros: This is a superb printer. Not only does it put the ink on the paper well it is also fast, fast. My wife is a school teacher and uses it for work sheets that she uses in her class. If she puts the printer in the economy mode the paper actually flies out of the printer on to the floor. Does a great...
Summary: I get really irritated when I read other peoples' reviews that say things about office use and printing on envelopes... this is a photosmart series, smart for printing photos. So use it as a photo printer and enjoy the crystal clear photo quality.
Pros: Beautiful photo quality, high level 6-color ink system where you can replace 1 color at a time, unlike with those 3-in-1 cartrige models.
Cons: there are a lot of photo adjustment options that are tricky to get right, especially when using a real program like photoshop you're setting everything twice.
Summary: Contrary to what you may read the premium priced ink cartridges do not always have the most ink. Several times I had cartridges only 3/4 full. Tried to get HP to address the ink cartridge but was ignored.
Pros: The photo printing is excellent in both color and black and white. I use PhotoShop Elements to process my photos so cannot give any assessment on the HP software or its handling of photo processing.
Cons: This printer is unbelievably slow and that is the reason for the low grade. I had inkjet printers ten years ago that was as fast as this printer. Also does not handle envelopes well.
Summary: This printer is very paper type sensitive. I was choosing between this one and Canon Pixma i4300 and decided to go with HP because it accepts much more borderless sizes plus has very nice panoramic prints capabilities (up to 8.5x24). Also, native Black Ink resolution is 1200dpi vs 600dpi.
Pros: Very dependable on paper size and ink usage. I’ve printed a lot of 8.5x11 and only need to replace one Yellow cartridge! Very detailed prints.
Summary: Ugh! Just got this and the darned thing will not install. The new hardware wizard pops up during the HP Software installation and says it cannot find the required section in the INF. Furthermore the HP Software doesn't see the printer. HP is so far no help at all.
Summary: This is a great printer to have around the home. The only thing that I didn't like about this printer is that you cannot print documents directly from a flash/thumb drive. In the description, it says that you don't need a pc to print...not true. On a positive note, it is a great printer.
Summary: This was a terrific printer for me, excellent pictures and good support for the occasional larger document. Then I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista. The D7160 still prints excellent pictures, but chokes on documents of large file size.
