Summary: Its a good printer for regular printing, but trying to print a photo is a pain. You have to push and hold the photo paper into the photo tray so that the printer recognizes that the paper is in it. This only works sometimes, you'll have to fight error after error message to get it to work.
Summary: I don't know if it's because it was a refurbished printer (bought on another site, not Amazon), but this printer lasted 1 year. I've had problems with it immediately, but I really can't complain much since it only cost me $40.00. Paper jams easily and when it does it's a huge pain to access the rollers and pull the paper out. The sensor is bad so if you ever open the cover and close it, the sensors will still say the cover is open.
Summary: I bought an Asus EEE laptop computer for my granddaughter, and it has been very difficult to find a printer that's compatible with its Linux system. This printer works perfectly! I just had to copy the software CD on to an SD card to install the drivers. Photos look great, and the printer is very easy to use.
Summary: I bought this printer about a year ago because I wanted something that could produce high quality photographs. It worked pretty well for this the first couple of months (except for the fact that it went through ink cartieges like they were candy). But after a few months it began having problems. The print quality diminished and it would often "barf" ink splatters onto the photos (and papers) that I printed.
Summary: I purchased this printer to print on CD's and DVD's. The software supplied with the printer did not seem to be very good, but I do not use it. I use Roxio Media Creator. On the label creator just tell the software to print to the CD tray on the printer. You will need to make adjustments so that it prints the right area, but this is to be expected on any new printer.
Summary: Comments about HP Photosmart D5160 Photo Printer: HP always makes it easy to print your photos right from home. The printer is designed to print the best quality with the greatest of color. My prints look like they are right from a photo store. I sent them to my family and have been getting tons of compliments on them. I will never buy another printer after all the raving I have received for the quality of my photos.
Pros: Durable, Easy Setup, Easy To Use, Fast Print Time, Reliable
Summary: Comments about HP Photosmart D5160 Photo Printer: We take a lot of pics and we print a lot of pics. It used to be the whole take it to be developed thing, but now that we've got this printer we are printing out what we like, and that is a savings, we are also printing out great quality prints-- as many copies as we need. Our prints look like they came from the pros! Uses a lot of ink at high settings, and goes slow, but that is to be expected. Great price!
Summary: Bought the printer for CD/DVD printing capabilities as many others did. I didn't want an Epson after seeing so many people have problems with that brand. At the time (a few years ago) it was one of the few options, apart from using Lightscribe and similar technologies. Software/drivers are junk. Lining up the disc is impossible without using their provided software. Other software always prints offset the disc with no way to adjust it.
Summary: I made the mistake of buying this in a hurry, because my Epson died at a critical time, and I needed a printer urgently. so I drove across the street and grabbed the first Mac compatible printer that was reasonably priced. This has been a POS, absolutely the worst printer I ever owned. Unreliable, jams frequently. Guzzles ink even on low-ink settings. Reqires frequent tinkering to keep it running.
Summary: I bought this because I wanted to be able to print on CDs and DVDs. All i can say is WOW! The cd/dvd print is super fast and takes under a minute even with complicated pictures. I must mention though that i did not buy mine on Amazon. i got it on Ebay for $48 including shipping. :D At first, i was really unhappy because the print job was ugly and blurry. Guess what? IT WAS OPERATOR ERROR!
