Thought I Like it but now I hate it

Jordan J., Newegg
19 July 2011
  • Summary: Stay away, I got this print when it first came out at $299, read the reviews on here and the similar things that are happening to me now were written. Bad printer, but here I go again and buying another printer.
  • Pros: I work in a Data Center of a Major University. Every once in awhile one of the Admins or programmers will ask us to help them with some issues in their office. Guess what mainly they are, printers! Before this job I worked on a lot of Dell/LexMar (Same) and HP printers. I loved HP, I even went an...
  • Cons: Don't buy it!!! Stay away unless its the same price as the ink than buy it and chuck it. From day one well more like 2nd month, I didn't open it right away to test it. It was hell. Would not see my N network and I didn't even have a dual band or 5ghz N wireless at the time. I think I might have b...

Very Bad Call

Anonymous, Newegg
23 June 2011
  • Summary: Unless you print constantly, leave this one on the shelf. Huge expense for ink that will evaporate in a few weeks and demand replacement. If you do print a lot it works fine. Scanner is a gee-whiz feature that works and that is about it.
  • Pros: Prints very good photos and documents. Black and Photo black carts.
  • Cons: Ink simply disappears! I have been told you need to print occasionally to prevent ink loss. Let's get this straight, waste ink to keep it from evaporating?!!! I love HP, but this is the biggest piece of junk going. Scan software is sub-par and scan color rendering not impressive match to original.

Junk

Gerald D., Newegg
7 June 2011
  • Pros: Lots of nice features such as the scanner and wireless
  • Cons: Doesn't print for beans and consumes ink like no tomorrow. I have mine for 3 years and 1 day and have had the print head fail 3 times. Now they are telling me I am one day over warranty and they won't replace the print head. Thanks HP.

Printer FAIL, Scanner FAIL, Networking FAIL

Anonymous, Newegg
15 November 2010
  • Summary: AVOID this printer at all costs. I got $150 off list, and still feel like I was ripped off. The first ink refill, after less than 300 pages, cost $100.
  • Pros: Snazzy touch screen.
  • Cons: Printer locks up constantly, often requiring pulling the power cord to restart. It sucks up ink like a drunken sailor at Octoberfest. It takes several minutes to restart. It does NOT print 33 ppm ... not even close. The scanner TWAIN drivers crash all the time. There have been no driver updates f...

  • Summary: very frustrating dealing with HP tech support.
  • Pros: Price was good. Had a 209 first that did not work, so they traded it for a 309.
  • Cons: Lots of problems with HP tech support. Most of the technies did not know what to do. I had many problems with the 209 and Windows...they advised me to go Windows SP. Lots of problems with picture quality. The 4 x 6 prints come out blurry and very wet. I use about 20% of the ink per picture...same...

DO NOT BUY!

Anonymous, Newegg
23 June 2010
  • Summary: HP'S QUALITY HAS BEEN STEADILY DECLINING - THIS PRINTER IS PROOF. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND KEEP LOOKING - AT ANOTHER MANUFACTURER.
  • Pros: INEXPENSIVE
  • Cons: WORST PRINTER I HAVE EVER OWNED. (MY 4TH) THIS IS THE NOISIEST PRINTER EVER. IT CONSTANTLY GRINDS. WHEN STARTING, SHUTTING DOWN AND IN BETWEEN EVERY PRINT JOB. TO ADD INSULT, EVERY 5 WKS. I HAVE TO CHANGE INK CARTRIDGES - I ONLY PRINT A FEW PAGES ONCE A WEEK ON AVERAGE. THIS PRINTER? TAKES 5 DIFE...

  • Summary: Notice how long the users who have rated this excellent have had it. Less than one week. If you want the real scoop, visit the HP website and search for this printer model, although this horrible ink life is not restricted to this model.
  • Pros: None unless you only want to print black text. Even then color cartridges WILL be used.
  • Cons: Purchased January 2010 for $119 on sale. Have spent $178.50 to date, as of April 22, 2010, on replacement ink cartridges. Have been keeping a record, and I am getting anywhere from 30-50 pages per cartridge when using color ink. Get notices of low ink as few as 9 days after installing new cartrid...

David K., Newegg
12 April 2010
  • Pros: Was delivered in time for my wife's birthday......
  • Cons: From new out of the box, the printer indicated 'ink system failure' and prompted to return the printer for repairs. After unplugging and resetting several times we finally got it to attempt to print but the printed material was not legible and colors were all skewed. Very disappointed.....was a b...
