Summary: Do not purchase this printer. Eats ink like crazy. I refill my cartridges using kit but printer won't recognize them. Worked ok at first but after a year it started clogging and spitting out blank pages. Now the stupid thing turned off by itself and won't start again until I unplug the back (error message pops up after I do warning me that doing so will ruin printer. Hate this printer.
Summary: bought this because it could print up to 12 in wide and 4 ft long. The printer is constantly jamming or saying paper tray is empty when it isn't. Without exception every printing experience has been frustrating and a bad experience. That being said the worst part is the cost of ink. It does print beautiful pictures so this Christmas I ordered a complete set of ink cartridges for this printer.
Burns through ink, printing is high quality, and stopped working after one year

Summary: I bought both the large format and small format versions of this printer and up till now, bought only HP. I still use the earlier model and am satisfied with its capacity and reliability. This model of printers all stopped working within one year. HP seems to care more about selling ink, and less about providing value. It's time to shop other brands.
Summary: Looks like...after putting up with three years of challenges, I have to add my comments. Always had photo paper feed problem but now it has decided to shut down at inopportune times. The power button does not work and forced to unplug power supply. This causes warning that it was an improper shut down. Additionally, the ink levels are showing to be low even after installing HP cartridges [I have never used after market or refilled them].
Summary: I bought this printer a couple of years ago to occasionally print largish photographs, and when it worked it produced excellent results, though it does require careful picture selection, and image processing to get the best out of it. I never had any connectivity problems with it, the drivers installed easily, though HP does include a lot of unnecessary and some problematic software.
Summary: If you buy this printer (or any HP Printer) make sure you get the longest extended warranty available. I am on my second B8550 printer, and it is looking like I will need a third. My 3 year extended warranty expires in November. After that I will be out of luck. The printer produces good quality prints, even in the "normal setting". The main problem with printer is it not well made.
Summary: I bought this printer when my old HP printer of six years finally quit working. I can't believe they released this model. The low level ink alarms within weeks after replacing. Even when I haven't printed but a few pages. It's unbelievable. It continuously shuts down in the middle of a print job. It won't power on when pressing the power button. I have to unplug and plug back in to get any kind of life out of it.
