Summary: BE CAREFUL installing ink cartridges. If you bend the spring, it's at least $100 to buy a new print head. I haven't found a source for just replacement springs. Otherwise, the printer works great via USB, Ethernet, or wireless. Prints to Win7 and MacOS without needing to download drivers. Just add printer, and go.
Summary: I have had the Officejet Pro K8600 for about two year and like it a great deal. Presently, it will not print heavy tabloid paper as it once did. I would purchase the same printer; however, HP has discontinued it and the other companies are charging exorbitant prices. I paid less than $400 and it is almost $700 new from other companies. For an old, discontinued printer, I find this to be ridiculous.
Summary: I just got this HP K8600 printer at a great price from a local Office Depot. I guess it has been discontinued and they were closing it out. I was trying to decide between buying a color laser printer or ink jet. Color inkjets are less expense to buy but the ink cost is normally pretty high. The laser printer toners cost more, will give you more copies but there is also a higher maintenance for laser printes.
Summary: Like previous reviewer, I am using it for printing on 11x17. It has been close to two years. Aside from a few paper jams and replacing ink (the unit uses more ink than I expected), I did not do anything else to it. It has already paid for itself considering the undr $200 cost, two years ago.
Summary: This printer is a great value. The ink is relatively inexpensive and has a large yield. Print quality is good for my use (CAD Drawings / Architectural Renderings). Photo quality isn't the best but still adequate. This printer is worth the money hands down.
Summary: I bought this printer for use at work - to replace an HP895cse that had worked for many years but was making noise and chewing up more ink than usual. I've only had the new 8600 for one day, but have a few useful comments. First - if you have not seen this printer in person, understand that it is BIG.
Summary: I have had a HP Deskjet 1220c for about 4 years and never had a problem, except for having to clean the platinum and guides a few months ago.. very reliable, fast, and excellent, photo quality prints with permanent Vivera inks. The only problem with it was it used a lot of expensive ink because of the single, 3 color cartridge plus singe black.
Good choice as long as you've no need to print on paper longer than 483mm

Excerpt: This is an excellent printer, with one important proviso. Currently (August 23 2008) the HP Datasheet series AA1-7140***.PDF for this machine shows a maximum custom print capability of 330 x 2540mm. However, the supplied printer driver only permits a maximum of 330 x 482mm. Please note that the displayed maximum print length of 2540mm shown by the majority of resellers, including Dabs and Amazon is incorrect.
