Summary: Bought two for my office, for medium to low use. As soon as warranty was up, had to replace both print heads. $$ cha ching Even using HP cartridges the printed material is faded, streaky or the cartridges just won't work. I have spent hours calling HP support, which was NOT supportive and trying to figure out what was wrong myself. Why if you buy a new print head from HP is it hundreds of dollars but so much less from Amazon or Ebay?
Summary: BE CAREFUL installing ink cartridges. If you bend the spring, it's at least $100 to buy a new print head. I haven't found a source for just replacement springs. Otherwise, the printer works great via USB, Ethernet, or wireless. Prints to Win7 and MacOS without needing to download drivers. Just add printer, and go.
Summary: Fast, very reliable work horse. Printed 44K pages in 4 years. Used approximately 3-4 XL cartridges each year for the mentioned volume. It was initially on usb and later on the network. We almost never had an issue with it. Until I accidentally damaged it. Unfortunately, HP doesn't repair printers, and parts sell for the price of a new printer. Now we are switching to the 7110 and hoping for the best.
Summary: The best wide format printer I have used. I like the individual ink tanks separate from the print head. The XL cartridges have enough ink volume for all my large print job needs. Took sometime to get it calibrated with Photoshop for photo output but after that I have used it exclusively for large format printing. Useful for anyone needing to do larger signage (13"x9") or anyone wanting to print their own photos or 12"x12" scrapbook pages.
Summary: Having purchased a similar printer HP K8600 dn, and trying desperately to get a replacement because it had worked so well; this one is a disappointment. From the word go it tore the paper; sometimes it just crumples the paper. Therefore I cannot use it for printing 20lb paper at all.
Hewlett Packard K8600 Office Jet Pro Color Printer
K. Sumner, Amazon
12 October 2012
Summary: So far so good. Arrived quickly, easy to set up. Printing good quality and no issues with the paper feed. We had one, same model, in the past and it lasted us about 7 years which is why we purchased a new one. The paper feed sensor went bad on the old one. I would purchase again and recommend it.
Summary: I have had the Officejet Pro K8600 for about two year and like it a great deal. Presently, it will not print heavy tabloid paper as it once did. I would purchase the same printer; however, HP has discontinued it and the other companies are charging exorbitant prices. I paid less than $400 and it is almost $700 new from other companies. For an old, discontinued printer, I find this to be ridiculous.
Summary: This printer is very good unless you are using 64 bit Windows 7. I've spent many hours trying to make this work and it just seems to be incompatible. I don't know precisely why I thought it made sense to use 64 bit Windows in the first place as I'm only running 4 GB of RAM but that's another story. On my 32 bit Windows 7 it ran fine and was a nice companion to print 11x17 / ledger / tabloid color projects and I would recommend it.
