Summary: We have 18 of these printers. We use them in our vehicles to print on site inspection reports which are left with clients. They are a royal Pain to use, and it goes beyond the HP print drivers. They are plagued with hardware problems also. The heads jam frequently, and the paper feed is unreliable. The HP printer drivers are constantly popping up messages, and hogging system resources.
Summary: My office bought 12 of these. One was dead right out of the box. Two more failed within the warranty period. The last one failed 4 weeks after the warranty was up. HP told me it could not be repaired. The build quality of these is very poor all of our problems have concerned the print head. Cheap plastic appears to blame. The performance of the printer is not very good either.
Summary: This printer works good but it is very noisy. It sounds like it's going to break everytime I use it. I was really surprised by how loud it is. We typically use Canon's portable printers but I was looking for something cheaper. Well, if I had known how loud this one was I would have spent the extra money on a Canon printer.
Summary: Bought this printer only because all our old printers will not work with my new laptop with Vista. Printer works okay but sometimes paper jams and printer gets "amnesia". But my biggest gripe is that the printer arrived with missing software and I had the extra expense of purchasing said software from the HP website and had to await arrival of software before I could even set up my printer. I am a college professor and my time and documents are very important.
Summary: I had my own experience with HP printers a few years ago and vowed to never buy another. But this one was a gift for a friend and this is the one he really wanted. I tried to set it up and the cartidge lights kept flashing and the carriage would not position itself where ink cartidges could be inserted. After waiting for this to stop (all night) I contacted HP support. Hours of e-mail exchanges later they admitted that it was bad out of the box.
