It's not a bad printer

Ryan A. Melendez "-Ryan Melendez", Amazon
15 January 2013
  • Summary: First the bads, it's loud when it starts, and takes a while between starting the printer and actually getting to print something, and ink isn't cheap, but it's really not a bad printer.

Great but lacks one thing.

Anonymous, Newegg
19 November 2011
  • Summary: Great print quality, and has a large paper tray so less reloading of paper. It's terrific for the price on Newegg, I would not have payed the retail price for this.
  • Pros: Supports Duplex (Double Sided Printing) which is the main reason I bought this, most of the ones that do are about $150+ and I do not have that for a printer because ink for most of those are another $30 where this one is reasonable at about $15. It supports borderless printing, most don't seem t...
  • Cons: The size. While i seems small it's quite large. The paper exit tray sticks out far (you have to have it pulled out or the paper will fall on the floor). and the double sided printing requires an extension on the back that adds to its bulkiness. And the main thing I don't like is that it does not ...

  • Summary: i've refilled for years...this system is the best inhome system yet.
  • Pros: the ink tanks in this model are refillable...which makes it even more economical.theres a refill kit that takes a lot of the hassel out of refilling the 920 and 546 tanks...about 25.00. sorry ...i too have kids on my printer.

HP Officejet 6000

Daniel O., Newegg
8 March 2011
  • Summary: In many reviews of this printer, I've noticed that people have complained about excessive noise. I'd have to strongly disagree on this point, so far, this thing has been quieter than any laser printer I've used, and less noisy than most inkjets I've used.
  • Pros: Good color quality and fast printing makes this a winner in my book. Even on best quality, this thing spits out B/W text pages extremely quickly, and full page color photographs are fairly swift as well, usually under 40 seconds. Networking (wired) works flawlessly, removing the need to have it h...
  • Cons: This model apparently doesn't work with the duplexing unit (sold separately), or so I've read, even though the hookups are there in the back. For this, it seems you need to buy the more expensive wireless model. I haven't confirmed this myself, but I've read it in several product reviews and, whi...

Nice inexpensive printer

EWG, Amazon
16 February 2011
  • Summary: I found lots of support for HP printers and Linux (Ubuntu) in blogs so I purchased the 6000 for my desktop, Ubuntu based machine. With USB cord connected, the computer found the printer immediately. Then I used the included software to connect 2 laptops, 1 on Win Vista and 1 on Win 7.

DAVID J., Newegg
26 December 2010
  • Summary: If you use Ubuntu be sure to have all the correct packages installed.Setup through Hplip and hp-setup did not work for me but when i went to system>administration>printing and add printer, then chose Network printer>find network printer and typed in my ROUTER'S iP ADDRESS it found the printer right...
  • Pros: Wireless or ethernet capable.Duplex printing feature saves paper.Print quality is quite good,I have seen better but mostly on photo printers.Ethernet set up is quite easy and was recognised right away on Ubuntu, windows was a little more involved but not difficult.Wireless got interesting but if y...
  • Cons: Noisey during cleaning process at startup. As always, the price of ink, although it does not seem to use any more ink than any other printer I have had.

User Review

Jay B., Newegg
16 December 2010
  • Summary: Basically, low end printers are disposable. The ink runs out quickly and the printer mechanisms are not durable. Don't expect more than a year of reliable service.
  • Pros: Wireless, easy to set up. Good value for the money. The advantage of ink jets over lasers is the low electrical consumption.
  • Cons: Flimsy construction (What else is new about low end printers, especially HP?), noisy, fair print quality, small ink cartridges.

wake-up flaky, duplex for the price

PAUL W., Newegg
27 November 2010
  • Summary: Ink seems moderately priced, for an HP, avail most anywhere, but like someone else mentioned, doesnt seem to last as long as it should before it starts to complain for replacements.
  • Pros: Duplex feature comes in handy, although it adds about 3 inches more depth.
  • Cons: It's supposed to switch itself on when you print to it, but about half the time we have to press On and wait, but then it will start the jobs queued.

officejet 6000 wireless

raghu p., Newegg
22 November 2010
  • Pros: Nice printer. Easily connects up to home wireless network. HP tech support was not as knowledgeable to help when I bought it and had trouble getting the wireless going. During the conversation I got a clue that helped with the install and made it a snap. Have had this for almost a year now. No ma...
  • Cons: Not sure about the print speed claims.

Reliable

C. Thomason, Amazon
14 November 2010
  • Summary: I have always purchased HP printers. This is the first OfficeJet . It seems to do a lot of preperation before and after printing. Print quality is excellent. Prints pages very fast and the ink is reasonably priced. It was very inexpensive on Amazon so I am happy with my purchase.
